Default Albertans on average give $3,700 to other provinces per year.

http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Al...832/story.html

Not really shocking but it still annoys me that Alberta continues to fund the other provinces.

It only pisses me off because Quebec runs a deficit while having really enhanced and expensive un neccessay programs funded by transfers from the Federal government.

I would've thought a guy who lives at home, in a parasite community no less, would be a little more sympathetic to the cause of leeching.

There should be a forced export of Quebec strippers to this province to make up for the short fall.

It annoys me that I fund your C-train rides from a parasite community. Please mail me a $3 Tyler-Park-Mustang-and-Ride fee.

I always find it funny when people associate Canadian 'transfer payments' with anything other than zero-sum. Albertans just happen to be on the plus side of the bank coffers. Anybody hoping for some sort of solution that mutually benefits all provinces is tragically reaching for the stars.

How many current-Albertans grew up and were educated in "have not" provinces but moved here as adults where they now pay taxes and contribute to the provincial labour force and economy? My wife and I both fit that description, as do many of our coworkers and friends.

Second point: how come many Calgarians and Edmontonians aren't equally upset that their provincial tax dollars are disproportionately spent in other areas of Alberta the same way they are about their federal tax dollars being spent in other provinces?

The difference is there isnt one part of Alberta that uses those funds and flaunts their free day-care programs funded by those of us who dont have free day-care programs. As CaptainCrunch mentioned, there is only 1 province that this grinds my gears about.

IIRC 30,000 workers from the eastcoast (seems high?) work in Alberta, they live in camp, flights are paid for and virtually all their income and taxes go to their home province. Just sayin

We can throw out any Provincial Gov't that we don't like. On the Federal level, we're lucky to play kingmaker to a minority. I'm sure that plays a big part of it.

Frankly, I support the idea of transfer payments. We've committed to being a country and we're all in it together.....good times and bad.

My only beef is that certain areas of the country (not naming names....) constantly run mind-boggling deficits in order to supply perks exclusively to their region. The rest of Canada has no say in their economics, which is highly unfair given where the money actually comes from.

Transfer payments are a good thing, but you should have to spend your welfare check on food, not flatscreens.
