UofC Teachers.
*sigh*
One of them just cancelled class outright (my poli 279 class), without really telling anyone. He just all the sudden stopped showing up (no note on the door either). According to other students who have contacted the Teacher's assistant, he is still alive, and there was no injury that keeps him out of class, he just stopped coming.
Started on the 28th of Nov, people just thought he was ill, but then he didn't show up for the other 2 classes that week, and today I got confirmation from some of the other students that class was over.
So none of us really know what the deal is with the final exam, he wont respond to emails from the students, isn't in his office for office hours.
The TA wont give us any information on what to study for the exam (those who have contacted her via email) because the prof hasn't told her what to say to us.
What a great situation. In a 200 level class of all things too.
Morgan Nyendu is his name, never, ever take any one of his classes, he was a horrible prof before he quit on the students.

Wow, that's a bummer. Wonder what's up with him, no one who's all there - if you know what I mean - would just leave like that. Obviously the dude has some issues.
You'd think they'd have some sort of back-up plan incase stuff like this happens, no? I mean it's kind of weird that they'd just say "well, class is over, sorry".

Brutal! Maybe the jackoff decided to run as a candidate somewhere, and left you out to dry? Probably a Liberal.

Yeah I'll be sending some emails to the dean.
The thing is, he was an absolutely horrible teacher (I wrote some very mincing comments for the teacher reviews for the UofC).
Because of this, before the previous two midterms, he told you what the essay topic was about (because the text was so obscure as well as his lectures, everyone and i mean everyone would have missed the boat on his essay topic).
It is just stupid.

I complained about one of my profs when I was in second year.. she no longer teaches the class that I had her for. She kicked me out of the class because I was telling her how she was doing the examples wrong. I had to learn that class on my own. In fact the next semester she was reduced to a TA.. She later taught other classes but I never had her as more than a TA for the rest of my schooling.

In the last two years, I've had two English profs have to leave the class before it ended. In both cases, they were replaced by others with a minor transition period being the only problem. I don't know what's up with Caramon's class. That's really weird and silly. They better be getting money back for that course, not to mention an apology for wasting their time.
I wonder if the students will still get credit for it. Otherwise, the loss of a class could potentially set some students back a year, as they will need to replace it. On the other hand, though, do they really want to give someone a degree that says they have done all these things when they really haven't...even if it was the school's fault.

I had this guy guest lecture an IR poli class of mine. Absolutely horrendous.
Just read the text, I hear it is one of the easier Polis.

Yikes! that really sucks. For what it's worth, he's gotten bad ratings over at ratemyprofessors.com/canada. If I were you I'd talk to the dean of social science (or associate dean of Student Affairs Dr Ranson- she's awesome). There is no harm in letting others know whats going on. After all he is getting paid to teach the class and he is clearly not doing that.
Here's the link to the deans office

Caramon! We're in the same class. "Without really telling anyone" is not exactly accurate, man. Perhaps you should have come to class. IMO, you have no right to complain about not getting appropriate information when you don't bother to come to class.
He asked everyone (there) if they liked democracy, then asked us if we wanted this to be the last class. Democracy made it the last class! It was actually quite funny.
Anyway, there ya go. I actually don't mind him as a prof. His exams are up-and-down, and he's repetitive, but I can handle him.\
edit: I have another class with him, and he did the exact same thing. Guy likes to cut out 2 weeks early, I suppose. He did it for at least one other class as well.

LMFAO...it's like people who complain about the midterm being hard when they missed my stat class last Monday with the prof handing out the answers to the midterm basically.

Hah! Well, I am proven wrong then.
I asked numerous people in the class though, and they had no idea as well.

That's still really stupid though. It's a UofC class, not a democracy. What about the students who still want class and instruction. They have paid for it and he has a duty to give them what they paid for.

Nyendu has a bad reputation among poli sci students. I am really not sure why the guy is in the poli sci department as most of his research is outside.
