Have we not had this debate before? It's obvious where I stand, the seal hunt is brutal and everything has a right to live. I still vote for having a seal hunters hunt!

I love the Arrogant Worms... Jesus Brother Bob, Celine Dion, Me Like Hockey, and of course Let there Be Guns (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6e9uKMCmNM ) but as a vegetarian "Carrot Juice is Murder" kinda irked me even though I know Arrogant Worms is a comedy band and not to be taken seriously. But now when I listen to it, like most of their music, the lyrics are just so absurd they CAN'T be taken seriously.

It is obvious to even the most obtuse of people that kicking a dog causes more suffering than, say, stepping on your lawn.

Bump. Apparently Canada is being called racist by animal rights groups for trying to sell the meat from the annual seal cull to China because Chinese will pretty much eat anything.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environmen...hina-seal-meat

Being Chinese myself, I do admit we do eat a heck of a lot more stuff that the usual Canadians don't eat on a regular basis, but I think this has more to do with animal rights groups being crazy and attacking anything to do with hunting the cute seals.

I'm surprised this issue still hasn't been fixed more than a year later. Stupid European and PETA type animal rights groups still spewing out crap to the rest of the world about the hunt being wrong when its necessary.

Maybe they should save it and feed the Polar bears, that would make us look good.

In slightly related news, Quebec chef pulls out of a food festival in Ottawa due to complaints that he would be serving frois gras

I oppose the seal hunt, because it is basically an enormous sink of taxpayer money:

This article convinced me

Gov't subsidizing an industry, O heaven forbid what the hell are they doing ????

Thats a very slanted article. But go ahead and hop down that yellow brick road.

The govt spends just a much or more on the auto Industry in Ontario or for Farm subsidies.

Even for a 2 year old thread the information and assumptions on here are incredible.

Maybe do some research before you spout off over the internet.

I'm spouting off over the internet? I stated my opinion, and backed it up with an article published in a respected newspaper.

Why don't you explain to me why the the seal industry is financially a wise choice for Canadians?

I'm confused. Selling an object that a country doesn't want to another country that seems to be paying for it...is racism?

Is Fort Mac still a financially wise choice for Newfoundlanders, Nufy?

Why don't you check with the articles writer and have him explain how much of the Coast Guard allocation for the Seal hunt is to protect protestors and media who travel to witness the hunt each year.

The facts are that a time honored tradition on the east coast is being ruined because some one didn't like the optics and needed as cause to fill their empty time.

As some other posters have stated, if the seals weren't so cute there wouldn't be an issue.

The Hakapic was outlawed years ago, as was the killing of whitecoats. But what pictures do you see constantly being re-published...

Don't believe me, check the picture in the article you quoted.

As much as the gov't spends defending the seal industry I'm sure there is just as much or more spending or wastage on other programs. This is gov't after all.

If the protestors win on this issue you think they are going to go away ??

Just on to the next cause...
