The Blades have a press conference set up in a couple of hours to announce they have picked up Schenn. I'd expect the trades to start happening anytime now.

Schenn deal announced:
the Blades have given up four draft picks: 1st Round in 2011, 2nd Round in 2011, 1st Round in 2012 and 1st Round in 2012 Import Draft. The Blades also included in the trade two prospects: Ayrton Nikkel (Pursuit of Excellence M-AAA) and Tim McGauley (Regina M-AAA).

That's a high price too for a rental. The Blades were really high on Nikkel especially while McCauley is a very good prospect. Definitely a quality over quantity deal when compared to the Eakin trade. 3 1st round picks as well. Yikes.
I'm glad the Rebels stayed away from this insanity. (So far at least!)
Still, after saying that, the Blades have shown that they mean business this year. The Ice are improved regardless of the fact that they gave up a huge portion of their future to get Eakin. (An 8 for 1 deal!! Never seen that before.)
Wonder if Bubnick and McKenzie get moved to contenders today?

I do know there have been talks and I would be shocked if they weren't moved but no one knows for sure.

Just at the #Hitmen skate. Hearing D and co captain Matt MacKenzie to Tri-City ... Left practice early. Not sure for what or who.

MacKenzie to the Ams for F Brooks Macek and D Spencer Humphries (both 18) plus a conditional 3rd pick in return.

Wow and the overpayment continues.
Good to see Preston did nothing during this time so the Hurricanes can still suck next and the year after.
It isn't like they had one of the big names but what is the point in holding on to players that will help you finish 9th this year and maybe get to 9th again next year?

The Ams-Hitmen deal really isn't an overpayment imo. Macek had a point per game last year but has really fallen back this year. Humpfries is at a stay home kid, nothing great. The pick only comes into play if MacKenzie returns as an OV.
interesting to hear Kelly say that they really weren't interested in picks because they have their own and they don't want to wait for those picks. He wanted warm bodies in return because he wants to be better next year.
I'd say this is a fairly even trade.

I am not a fan of the Hitmen so probably undervalue their players which might be why I would not think much of a guy like Mackenzie.
Macek is having a down year but has still shown that he has a lot of talent adding in the extra player for a guy that is likely gone next year seems more than enough.
Throw in the fact that Tri-Cities likely doesn't beat Portland with or without the trade and it is more than I would give up for a meh guy like Mackenzie.

Holly has been released and sent back to Slovakia.
Luhning and Berg have both been sent to the SJHL. Not sure if those two have been released or just re-assigned.

Did anyone see last nights Hitman Hurricanes game. From the boxscore it looks like there was a line brawl to finish the game. Was there something nasty that set it off or was it just posturing prior to their third match in a row?

It was probably due to Hitmen frustration but there was a hit by Max Ross (Canes) on Keaton Lubin (Hitmen) that brought everyone together. Nothing major in my opinion.

It was at the other end of the ice from where I was but there wasn't anything blatant. Looked like some bad blood/frustration combined with guys like Mahacek and Roach on the ice that wanted to fight.
Hopefully Mahacek gets a chance to kick the crap out of Roach tomorrow. Roach was super tough against a smaller guy who wanted nothing to do with a fight. Ross could have returned the favor and killed Wilson but took him down to the ice instead of feeding him unnecessary shots.

And Mahacek wasn't super tough against a much smaller 16 yr old in Lubin? Ross returning the favor to Wilson? What favor would he be returning? Roach never threw a punch after Johnston went to his knees. I agree that a Roach vs Mahacek will almost be a guarentee tomorrow as will a Wilson vs Ross round 2. Wilson will want to redeem himself after that one. Looking forward to the game tomorrow!

It's Moon. His commentary, especially as it relates to the Hitmen is always a little... coloured. Take it with a grain of salt.
In other news, as everyone in Calgary knows, Kootenay sucks!

No he didn't throw a punch just hammer fists to his head and back as Johnston went to the ground to try and stop the fight.
Never said that Mahacek was a saint either.

Wow talk about Jekyll and Hyde...
Ice dominate the Chiefs at home Friday, but positively lay an egg this afternoon in Spokane in the outdoor game.
Kinda glad I stayed home to watch the KIJHL All-Star game.
