I doubt Shaw will doing this anytime soon. Shaw still has a long way to go to even catch up with the tech that is out there, I waited for word that they were goign to enable MOCA soon on their DCX boxes. Then I stopped waiting and got a Optik install scheduled, I am crossing my fingers that I have a good experience with Telus because I love the mediaroom tech.

For anyone wondering how HD streams impact Telus internet speeds, I got my installer to explain.

In the case of a 15mbps connection, my modem is actually connecting at 35-40mbps, but my internet usage is capped at 15mbps (cause that's all I subscribe to). The HD streams do not use your internet bandwidth unless it has to. In my case I've got plenty of room "above" my internet bandwidth since my modem is getting 35-40mpbs, so having 3 simultaneous HD streams doesn't affect my internet speed.

For the people the signed up with Shaw;

Did anyone get the HBO/3 Movie channels for free longer than a month?
Did anyone get a second HD box (in addition to the HD PVR) thrown in for a year?

Someone, and honestly I can't remember who is was so I am not sure how reliable the info is, told me this is what Shaw will be bringing in soon to match the Optic TV.

Thats doesn't make much sense considering Shaw just recently rolled out the DCX series with Moca, I don't see why they would have done that if they were going to go with different tech.

I agree.

When I first heard about it, I totally disregarded it as unlikely, but thought I would mention it here when the topic was brought up. I will try and remember who mentioned it to me and see how sure they are of it.

From me earlier in this thread:

AT&T U-verse uses MS mediaroom like Telus. Comcast and Shaw both use i-guide and guideworks.

The problem is, i-guide is the only middleware solution for the hardware Shaw has in place and the company that makes i-guide, Rovi is essentially a monopoly that has bought up all of its competitors and are more interested in licensing a whole bunch of things rather than actually developing products to compete other providers products and services.

Guideworks is the guide software that sits on top of I-guide is owned now by Comcast and re-sold by Rovi so we are all at the mercy of them to decided which features they feel it is important.

For example, Comcast has decided that they don't want the ability to turn off channels not subscribed to like their competitors do so, we'll never see it.

Apparently, Shaw is testing a new version of I-guide and Guideworks that is supposed to bring in a lot of the features that you see in Microsoft Mediaroom but how long that will be, who knows? It took them a year to roll out version A28.

Yeah, I've defended Shaw a lot on this forum, but we might be moving soon and when we do, I'm going with Telus Optik. The guide is better, the features are better, it's more responsive...I am pretty sick of this 1980's looking SD guide and the non-responsive Motorola boxes from Shaw.

Before Telus Optik, there was just Telus TV which was essentially Bell channels wrapped in a Telus wrapper.

thats so incorrect it makes my headspin.

telus satellite uses bell satellite, telus tv has always been IPTV but in different platforms. the 1st platform, imagic was just grandfathered and retired. they upgraded to minerva platform and that is now being retired for mediaroom, which the public knows as optik.

Did it spin right off?

Meh, whatever...what most people had before what Telus TV is NOW, was Telus sat TV, which was simply Bell.

You sir have no idea what you are talking about. My original post was asking for you to explain about TELUS' Fios which you thought was just Bell (Which TELUS calls GPON). TELUS Tv before is TELUS Tv now... just with a new platform. They called it Optik for marketing reasons. TELUS Sat TV is a rebranded Bell Sat Tv service. TELUS actually built their IPTV platform from the ground up. So to start shooting your mouth off about something you obviously know very little about is just stupid.

Can you still not get Telus Satellite TV? Because that is what he was talking about in response to the question about Telus being the same as Bell.

Seems to be a lot of anger over a simple answer he gave.

Settle down there newbie.

You work for Telus?

Relax.

Perhaps take it easy with the shots and calling people stupid.
