I'm just wondering what everyone thought about this and if anyone has ever worked as one. About 2 years ago, I saw a ad in the paper saying 'cool travel job'..I called and found out it was selling magazines door to door. I decided against it because I didn't want to leave by myself. Now, my friend is nearly 19 and wants to do it and wants me to go with him.

I read a little about these things..a lot of people had horror stories about doing it..mainly that they got bossed around, you don't make as much money as they promise and sometimes got cheated out of money they earned. As much as I read, I came to realize a lot of these stories should be directed at themselves because it was stupidity on thier own behalf.

So my question is has anyone ever done this when they were younger? Or known someone that did this? If so, can you share your experience and if it's worth it or not?

I'm still just not sure, I think with a friend there it will be easier because we can always goof around and crap like that..but I don't know if being bus'ed across country is worth it, knowing possibly that I won't be able to get back for free. So any help would be great.

I don't think that I could go and bother people door to door (except on that one special night of the year... and I get free candy ), but that's just me, lots of people do that sort of thing.

I keep thinking of the scene from Office Space where the guy lies about being addicted to crack to sell more magazines.

Selling door-to-door is probably the hardest sales approach there is. It can be effective, but you have to have a thick skin. People do not want you to bother them at home and they have an automatic response of "not interested" no matter what you are selling, it's hard to get around that.

Go to the bar and try picking up women that are way out of your league...use the rejection as practice.

I could never do it because I'd never want to be treated the way I treat the people that knock on my door. I guess it's an honest living but still...bothering people when they are at home is crossing the line IMO...unless you're pimping pizza coupons. Then I have time for you.

Ok thanks for the advice..I agree it's freaky to be bugging people at thier homes. I think I'm going to be telling my friend that he can go, but im out. I just don't think it's for me ..never thought it was in the first place..but I can be talked into stuff like this easily so I kinda said sure before thinking. Aight thanks again for the help all.
