Vancouver plays "Bed intruder song" at the Canuck - Flames game

Now before I start I'm going to say that I have listened to this song before and laughed. It's funny, but is it suitable to play at an NHL hockey game?
Everyone knows that song is about the guy talking about how someone is trying to break into his house and rape his sister.

It rubbed me the wrong way hearing it an NHL arena. I think it was bad ethics by whoever approved playing that song to 19,000 fans.

And no I did not start this thread because we are losing.

You would probably be one of the Auburn fans that complained about the bama PA guy playing "take the money and run" when Cam Newton came out..

Puckluck, do you still hold that opinion when you see this ? Yes, Antoine Dodson has a website thanks to his 'interwebs fame' from this song.

I'm pretty sure if he has no problem in benefits afforded to him and his family as a result of his internet fame, there's really no issue in playing this song in an arena. It's mainstream. My DAD has heard it.

I mean, 'Come Out and Play' by the Offspring is about gang violence, and that was an arena favourite when it first came out. Underlying song meaning has nothing to do with whether a song is appropriate for an arena ditty.

You probably dont realize what 90% of the music played in hockey games is about.

Ive heard things like Du Haust and Metallic played in the dome.. you never complained about that.

I'm willing to bet there's plenty of songs out there based on actual crimes that were attempted or committed, making this a non-issue. I found it odd that they played it only because it's not a very good song musically, considering it's morphed from a guy talking.

I think it is a good parody of the state of a lot of popular music today. You can take someone with no talent and who can't sing, run their voice through an autotuner, add a beat, and voila - you've got a hit.

As for sex and violence sprouting up in popular music - it's been there all along. Does anyone think that Mick Jagger was talking about a car in "Start me Up"? Or he was baking gingerbread with "Brown Sugar"? Even Robert Johnson sang the blues about banging and beating his lady.

If a parody song about a funny, odd, and charismatic guy's interview on TV is off limits, so should most of the music played. The fact that this guy was talking that way about a serious subject in the attempted(?) rape of his sister makes the song/joke/meme even more funny because reality is often funnier than fiction.

Its good the song is being played. Chances are he's getting royalties from the song. More money to keep them from living in the ghetto.

I think this is the difference. The fact that Antoine Dodson himself is doing everything possible to commercially exploit the song, makes it okay to play IMO.

If Dodson himself is not offended by the song, then who exactly are we offending by playing it?

Couldn't agree more. Is there too much swearing in hockey?! Is this song inappropriate to play at the rink?! and on and on and on...

Yes, but the Flames are addressing that problem by doing their best to ensure that you never hear it again.
