Default Birds dropping dead in Arkansas, Louisiana

Anyone hear about this story? Hopefully not a fata.

http://www.ktsm.com/arkansas/days-af...-dead-from-sky

Really weird story especially since the birds are showing internal damage.

I remember when I was probably 12 or 13 while living in Florida we had a fish kill. Scared the holy crap out of me.

But if you haven't been to Arkansas and Northern LA you wouldn't understand why they would just die. That place sucks.

Very bizarre.

I read an msn story today that blamed fireworks (yeah, fireworks) for the bird deaths from the previous incident.

Last night on the news a vet said the fireworks from NYE could have scared them and he had a list of other possible reasons. The weird thing is a couple days before the bird incident Arkansas had thousands of dead fish float up on the rocks.

If anybody can get to the bottom of it all ... it's KC

In all fairness, he came off not nearly as crazy as Anderson Cooper clearly wanted him to be.

Lightening would be my guess, the loud cracks during a thunder storm can immobilise flocks of birds if their too close. I heard it actually stops their hearts.

100,000 fish also turned up dead in Arkansas. Something really weird going on.

I'd say poison of some sort, just took time to kill. Possible all birds were getting fed around same place and were released only to collapse in Arkansas?

New year fireworks may have caused Arkansas bird deaths

More than 3,000 blackbirds rained down from the sky during New Year's Eve celebration

Birds were "littering the streets, the gardens, the driveways, everywhere," said Robby King, a county wildlife officer in Beebe, a community of 5,000 people north-east of the state capital, Little Rock. "It was hard to drive down the street in some places without running over them."
More than 3,000 birds fell to the ground. Scientists said fireworks appeared to have frightened the birds to such a degree that they crashed into homes, cars and each other. Some may have flown straight into the ground.
"The blackbirds were flying at rooftop level instead of treetop level" to avoid explosions above, said Karen Rowe, an ornithologist with the Arkansas Game and Fish commission. "Blackbirds have poor eyesight, and they started colliding with things."

More at New Scientist:

Quote:
The blackbirds aren't the only mystery animals in Arkansas. 100,000 fish have died in a river 125 miles from Beebe. It's not clear what killed them but disease may be to blame. There's nothing to suggest the two events are linked.
