Calgary's a pretty good place. A good blend between big/small city, friendly people, lots of open space, very clean, and a decent standard of living for most of its residents. But I would like to see some more urban density in Calgary, some more pedestrian communities that you would find in places like Vancouver. I think its coming along slowly.
How's that rain grey winter treating you today?? It's a wonderful day today. Looking out the window, I see the ocean, the downtown skyline and the snow topped mountains. It's a picturesque day.

And your argument about the people.....ugh, I hate that crap. There are pretentious people in every city in Canada. There are idiots all over the place. Your generalization about the people of Vancouver is ridiculous. I'm sure there are idiots and snobby pricks in lovely Calgary as well. Just because you may have one or two bad experiences with some people in Vancouver doesn't mean the city is generally like that. There's good and bad everywhere.

I'm in Calgary right now, so can't comment on the weather. But generally the winters in Vancouver are very grey and dreary.

As far as the people go...I live in Vancouver and know some great people. I'm not saying everyone in Vancouver is a snobby prick and everyone in Calgary is an amazing person. But in general terms, socially, its a very different place than Calgary, and than other cities. I know a lot of people in Vancouver who think the same thing. Don't take it so personally.

I think some of it has to do with the size of the population, and some of it due to the fact that most people in Vancouver are from somewhere else. And some of it has to do with there are a lot of different areas of Vancouver (kits, gastown, yaletown, west van, north van, surrey, richmond)...there is a lot more cliquiness in vancouver...while Calgary, is pretty much just Calgary.

I find it's the lifers that enjoy it the least. I'll agree there are other great places, but coming from a place like Winnipeg, you appreciate that the traffic in comparison here is good, and the lack of crime compared to my city of birth is great. Hell, I'm celebrating the day I've lived here longer (which is January 2nd 2011!!)

The nice thing about having a car with better acceleration and braking (i drive a supercharged mustang cobra) is that no body can catch up to me if i want to dust them, and i can also brake faster if they decide to be a prick.

Me and my buddies in highschool used to box people in and drive the EXACT speed limit, so much fun.
Thank God you'll leave for greener pastures one day.

Vancouver is 10x the city Calgary is.

Calgarians are friendlier and this quote is quite true:

Otherwise to the people knocking Vancouver primarily because of traffic get your priorities straight.

I lived in Vancouver for 11 years and left because of work.. but I'd go back in a heart-beat if the right gig came around.

Never lived in Calgary but every time I've been I've really enjoyed it, even though I haven't been since 2002.

The traffic in Vancouver really is a nightmare. But the public transit is a god send.

As for the people, well they're not that bad. They can be snobby sometimes but they are still very approachable and you can carry a conversation with any given Vancouverite.

I've had a couple of lousy experiences as a kid though. But racist's are everywhere. And the majority of Vancouver is very tolerant.

The only other complaint I have is the occasional acid rain. Smells like crap. But the rain in general I don't mind.

Calgary is a fine city as well. Hate Edmonton though. And Edmontonians. Had a couple over to my house this summer. Guess how many times they brought their god damned mall up? Maybe they should bring it up to the Olympic Committee.
