And then because I still had the old operating system, I couldn't download iTunes 10. My Macbook is close to four years old, so I thought I was screwed, but I discovered I indeed have an Intel laptop, meaning the Snow Leopard will work, I can download iTunes 10, and my phone will work again.
Confused? I probably didn't need to include all that info. Thanks for reading.

Hehe.
For future knowledge with a 3G you can easily downgrade to any past version. 3gs/4/ipad not so much (need something called SHSH blobs...jailbreakers mostly have these..)
Snow Leopard should be a relatively painless install. Enjoy the upgrade.

Is there any way to potentially boost the signal my iPhone gets in my house? Literally anywhere I seem to go except in my house has excellent signal quality, but once I get home.. "Searching..." pops up almost immediately. It's a big battery waster and I have no consistent data and sometimes voice service.
I'm on Rogers, btw.

You can buy a "cell signal booster" for your house. Just a little box with an internal antenna. Google for it, if I recall correctly they're not cheap.

Me too. I'm in Lake Bonavista and my Rogers service blows in my house, but is great everywhere else.
Anybody have any experience with a signal booster? Sounds fishy.

No reason it shouldn't work, assuming the quality is there.
Assuming you have some signal, it would just take that signal and amplify it and retransmit it. Essentially the same thing the amp does to the signal in your stereo, but with a different physical medium.

I worked in an office once where it was basically a big metal building; a Faraday cage. No one's cell worked inside.
We got a repeater.. mounted an antenna outside, and another inside, and it worked fine after that.

I've read a few reviews for signal boosters, and they seem to do the job. It's a fair amount of setup and you get to have a coax cable along your floor or ceiling, but it seems to work. It looks like it's anywhere from $150 to $300 though...I'll see if I can stand my intermittent signal before paying that much to fix it.
A couple example boosters:

Have you tried disabling 3G? When I first got my iPhone 3 in Chestermere there was very poor 3G coverage at my house, but if I switched to 2G it was fine.
Then one day they turned on a tower somewhere and 3G worked great.

I've tried pretty much everything. Airplane mode, Network Settings Reset, Disable 3G Data, you name it. Even on Edge the iPhone will occasionally start searching for a network. Today has actually been okay so far. It was the worst between December 24th and 28th...maybe something was wrong in Canyon Meadows with Rogers' network.

What? a 3D IPhone?
If they can combine this with a projector, we'll have holo-phones in no time.

Apple has filed a patent that could see them enter the 3D battle ground, perhaps on their iPhone and iPad in the near future. After having their patent for a 3D stereoscopic system granted Apple are now ready to take the leap forward if they so wish.
The patent was actually first applied for in 2006, way before 3D was mainstream and Apple look to step a huge leap forward by providing 3D without the need for glasses.

I think it has to be set up on the provider's side. If you subscribe to the service, your phone should automatically do it.

Apologies if this is a common question, but does anyone have much experience using their Iphone to create a wireless hotspot?
It's not something I'd like to make a habit of, but when I am working at a certain location there is no wireless networks available, and I'd like to use my laptop to surf the internet.
I don't like surfing on the phone's browser, but I'm a bit terrified using my phone to send a signal to the laptop will result in huge data charges.
All I'd be doing is checking my email and browsing the web (no downloading)...
Am I able to do that without racking up data charges? Can anyone recommend an ap to turn the iphone into a wireless hotspot?
Any help would be appreciated.

It's called tethering and you can do it without any additional software, either through the cable or through bluetooth. You can't use the iPhone as a wireless hotspot without jailbreaking it.
And yes you have to be aware of your data usage, if you have a low data usage plan it wouldn't be impossible to run over your limit, so if you are on Rogers/Fido you can download their app to track your data usage.

My wife and I both use our phones for our alarm clock. A lot of people do. They're generally next to you at night, and they aren't affected by power outages. I even have a charging dock that turns my Droid into a clock radio-type thing. Its pretty amazing Apple has such trouble with these things.

That's cute. Your iPhone wannabe phone has a little stand for it. Where can I get myself an Android telephone?
