Quiz: Which party do you agree with most

Here is an interesting CBC quiz which presents each parties position on issues and allows you to agree/disagree. Sometimes it is pretty obvious which party the soundbyte came from (i.e. ..decrease GST to 5%...seperate from Canada). But still interestinghttp://www.votebyissue.org/cbc/
I came out disagreeing with Steven and Gilles the most

Pretty much down the middle with a slight lean towards the left just as I thought.

Interesting and informative, giving a nice summary of each party's stand on a number of issues.
 Disagreed: Most Harper (7) --> Duceppe (5) --> Layton = Martin (1) Least

 Agreed: Most Layton (10) --> Martin (9) --> Duceppe = Harper (4) Least

I know how you feel.

Mind you, I felt the same thing when I agreed with Harper... and Martin too. Maybe I should become a seperatist.

Agreed with Harper on 10 which is good, agreed with Martin on 7 which is way too high.
At least I didn't agree much with Layton.

Agreed with Harper on all 12.
 Martin and Layton on eight.

Not surprisingly, all four of my disagreements with Layton are related to the socialist/communist ideals of the NDP.

Heh, I really am the radical centrist I thought I was!
 Agreed:
 Martin 7
 Layton 6
 Duceppe 5
 Harper 4

 Disagreed:
 Harper 8
 Duceppe 7
 Layton 6
 Martin 5

So overall, I agree most with the Liberal platform and disagree most with the Conservative platform (which is exactly where I thought I'd be, as I'm a fiscal conservative/social liberal), but I'm really not overwhelmingly strong one way or the other.

Interesting the quiz didn't mention anything about abortion, same-sex marriage, etc...the real "hot button" issues.

 [Edit]
Like Snakeeye, where I disagreed with Layton was primarily the socialist NDP policies, chiefly: Taxes, Economic Growth, Employment Insurance, Farming.

Where I agreed with Harper: National Security, Foreign Aid, Defence Spending, Economic Growth.

Abortion is a non issue actually, and the same-sex marriage debate doesnt have enough diverging beliefs to make a proper question out of. All parties believe that gay unions should have the same rights as marriages, so the question is only the definition of the word, not exactly an issue where the platforms are considerably divergent.
Also, it is the one issue where any idiot knows where the parties stand. Except for the people who equate keeping the traditional definition of marriage with removing all rights for gay unions.

Same sex marriage is, IMO, the Trojan Horse that will sink the consevatives if Harper keeps handling it the way he is (let's resurrect it and vote again).

As I understand the current situation:
1) Any two people can get married
2) Churches/Temples/Mosques are free to sanction marriages as they see fit.
3) No Churches/Temples/Mosques will ever have to sanction a marriage they don't want to.

A pretty reasonable situation...unless you are a person who feels everyone has to see the world the way you do.

If Harper tries to mess with the status quo he will only stoke the general suspicion that he has a hidden creepy social agenda and will tank in the East.

If he leaves it alone...he has a shot at forming the government.

I think with same-sex marriage you really have 25% of the country strongly in favour of it, 25% of the country strongly opposed to it, and 50% of the country who just don't care, see the matter closed, and don't think it's worth spending any more time debating it.
I don't see what Harper has to gain by re-visiting the issue; surely it will galvanize his base of social conservatives, but he had their vote anyway. At best the moderate voters are ambivalent towards it, and at worst this will scare them away from his social policies.

I'm surprised I agree with a lot of Martins platform.

However the Fiberals will never get my vote.

Remember the NEP and its affect on Alberta in the 70's 80's. Disasterous.

I've already commented on the gay marriage thing on the election thread, dont think it needs to be discussed here, except for why it isnt on the questionaire. Same with Quebec seperation as a specific issue (ie: for those that include Duceppe.)
Hah - I wouldnt be surprised if I was you. The Conservatives and Liberals tend to be very similar on their platforms. The difference is in the details, and this quiz converts shades of grey into black and white, yes/no answers.
