Default Murder rate in Calgary lowest since 2003

http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alber.../16686671.html

Quote:
In 2010, Calgary recorded the lowest number of homicides since 2003.
Fewer lives lost gave investigators more time to focus on unsolved files.
Homicide Staff Sgt. Rick Tuza said there were 14 homicides in 2010, compared with 21 the previous year.
Police numbers show the last time the city recorded fewer than 14 killings was in 2003 when there were just 10.
I'm not sure on the numbers, but I don't recall the gangs having such a quiet year in a long time. Good to see there was only 14 murders in a city so big.

Edmonton has 27 murders in the same time, but that's not to bad for a third world city.

2010 isn't over yet. New Years Eve is usually good for a couple killings.

Less money in the city because of economy = less drugs = less crime.

Hmmm, that's stacked pretty heavily to the North side of the city eh? Even when you exclude downtown, it's pretty definitive . . .

I would be interested in seeing the whole picture, Its great that the murder rate is down, but I read somewhere that violent robberies and home invasions were up.

I know that the police release a yearly stats package, thats probably due out in the new year, it would be interesting to see if the whole picture is rosey, or just one part of it.

Calgary's murder rate drops significantly the same year Jackie Tran gets deported.

Just sayin'.

I hope they don't find my stash of hobo corpses. That'll really screw those numbers up.

Don't worry, hobos aren't people so they don't get counted.

The burst of violent gang crime in Calgary was just a blip on the radar, in Detroit it is a decades long established part of life.
