JERUSALEM – Israeli archaeologists said Monday they may have found the earliest evidence yet for the existence of modern man, and if so, it could upset theories of the origin of humans. A Tel Aviv University team excavating a cave in central Israel said teeth found in the cave are about 400,000 years old and resemble those of other remains of modern man, known scientifically as Homo sapiens, found in Israel. The earliest Homo sapiens remains found until now are half as old.
Not all too sure how this will change the theories of the origin of humans.
It may upset the "accepted" theories of the origins of humans, but there are plenty of other theories out there that already push back the date of the origins of mankind. I am sure it will further piss off all of the 70 year old bow-tie wearing academics to no end, though.

The accepted scientific theory is that Homo sapiens originated in Africa and migrated out of the continent. Gopher said if the remains are definitively linked to modern human's ancestors, it could mean that modern man in fact originated in what is now Israel.
Ha, yes, clearly that must be what it means.
Or that many of the accepted time-frames of the distant past are simply incorrect and based off of a whole lot of humming and hawing.

It's clear...that was Adam. keep digging, Eve must be there somewhere.
And the article does state:
Quote:
"Based on the evidence they've sited, it's a very tenuous and frankly rather remote possibility," Mellars said. He said the remains are more likely related to modern man's ancient relatives, the Neanderthals.
Anyone consider the evidence may have been planted? Without further evidence this find means little. This could be nothing more than a modern Piltdown man.
I love this kind of stuff. Until I started taking Anthro classes, I had no idea how shaky all the human origin theories were. To the point where a single discovery seems to turn everything on its head. It really is just a case of educated guesses.
If you have a model that explains all the observations obviously if an observation invalidates the model, you need a revised model.
Seems like they're jumping the gun a bit though: "He stressed that further research is needed to solidify the claim. If it does, he says, "this changes the whole picture of evolution."

Evolutionists (which I do believe for the most part) need more faith in science than creationists in the bible. Scientific theories keep changing and you don't even know if there is a hidden political/personal agenda behind any of this.
Humans started 200 thousand years ago no 400 thousands years ago. We came from one organism now we came from many, believe scientists on the big bang and evolution but not on climate change and tailings ponds and it goes on and on.
How do I know I am currently not believing in a scientific study that is completely false. Maybe pictures or it didn't happen is the right way to go.
I need less faith believing in creation which I also do somewhat believe (when not taken literally)
