I believe Erixon is going to be a stud for the Flames and a key piece of the future Flames.

Erixon had an assist too. Or at least that's what was on the original box score.

Just by checking TSN's boxscore it said just a goal, but either way on the ice for at least 5 goals for is pretty impressive!

Ortio gets a shutout today... 15 saves vs the Swiss.

Erixon 0, +0, 3shots against russia. The whole swedish team played really well and dominated russians, Erixon did not make any major mistake, good puckmoving and skating.

meh, whatever hockey world. The media and everyone can say our prospet pool is empty all they want, I'm with Feaster - I'm excited about what we have coming up in the next few years.

John Ramage is Team USA Captain, and we got him in the 4th round.
Tim Erixon is in his 3rd full season in the SEL and is contributing to his team in a noteworthy way.
Ryan Howse has 23 goals in 34 games for Chilliwack.
Mikael Backlund is a damn fine talent.
Leland Irving is getting back on track - and will have the next few years to continue to develop.
TJ Brodie has surprised everyone.
Joni Ortio is Team Finland's starting goalie in the WJC.

I wish Negrin and Pelech could stay healthy down in the AHL so we could get a real look at what they're capable of at game speed.

Absolutely, I think he is our best prospect, even better than Backlund.

Haven't you guys heard?

Apparently Backlund is a bust already, and the Flames should look to move him for a 3rd round pick....if they can even get that.

Another win for the Swedes. Erixon with six shots on net (tied for the team lead) in their win over the Czechs.

Watched the American/German game just to see Ramage. Didn't notice much from him but that have more to do with the competition than anything else. Can someone tell me what he brings to the table? Is he a shut down guy or is he suppose to have some offence too? Why was he picked as captain?

I'm not sure why he was picked as captain, but he's a shutdown guy first and foremost. My understanding is that he's a physical stay-at-home D with a decent outlet pass and an underrated offensive edge.

Sounds a lot like Alzner, but with a more physical edge to his game.

Joni Ortio perfect for Finland again today. Pulled in favour of Aittokalli for the 3rd period, Ortio stopped 10/10 shots, then Aittokalli came in and stopped all 7 he faced in the 3rd period.

Sure, 10 shots against through 40 mins isn't impressive - but Ortio stopped everything he had to.

I think it'd be a good pick if he ended up like Alzner-lite. I'm only saying this from 2-3 games of seeing Ramage, but my memory of Alzner from the WHL was that he has a lot more talent and skating skills than Ramage does.

G Joni Ortio (Team Finland)

D Tim Erixon (Team Sweden)

Ramage is nothing awe-worthy as a John Carlson or Ryan Suter, there are many better defenseman then him for the US squad, I've been particularly impressed with Jon Merill and Justin Faulk. Ramage made a couple of bonehead plays, which eventually cost his team a goal against. His skating is Staios-esque, his hockey IQ is pretty low and he is basically being covered up by his linemate, Jon Merill.

If he makes it, expect a Staios/Sarich career, nothing exceptional.

Joni Ortio is unlikely to have an NHL career. Too short, handles the puck like a grenade and gives up as much rebounds then Luongo does against Chicago.

Erixon, I am impressed with, he's pretty much leading the charge and is the workhorse for the Sweden defense. But this is to be expected from him because he's one of the oldest on the team and has the most experience playing against men.

That being said, Toni Lydman is what Erixon should become.

Too short? Wherever I've looked Ortio's been listed at 6' 1" and 181#. Same height but 3 lb.s lighter than Kiprusoff. That's a good size for a goalie and I'd say he's on track as a fine prospect. In fact, so far he's looking like the best goalie in the tournament.

I wouldn't go that far, do you know who Jack Campbell is?
