And I guarantee the cycles times of the lights are setup to nab as many people as possible. Plus you have no way of contesting these, what if the system is out of calibration? Too bad for you. BTW, I regularly see Police vehicles blatantly disregard the rules of the road. If you're going to setup cash grabs under the guise of safety, and least pretend you're leading by example.
One of the many reasons why i don't like cops

I don't like cops generally because they do greasy stuff like setting up speed traps in areas where people speed completely by mistake (ie sudden change in speed limit) and especially at night. I dont like cops because they generally act like power hungry jerks who love the fact they have a badge. I dont like cops because they fail to follow the same rules of the road they enforce on others, routinely using their lights to blow thru intersections, speed at least 10 K above the limit at all times etc etc etc.

I've never had a run in with cops and have never been arrested so it's not a personal gripe from one time I got busted with weed or something; I just dont like most cops

People still complain about police not following the rules of the road? LOL. Here's a reality check people: they're allowed to not follow the rules of the road. You aren't allowed to put LED lights on the top of your car while the police can, do you complain about that?

And what rules are you seeing them break anyways? Going through red lights with their lights and sirens on? Oh wait, but you probably saw them turn them off right after, and then turn into the Tim Horton's, right? Those pricks. They should never be allowed to stop for a coffee. I pay their damn salary, and all they do is sit in the coffee shops.

I feel sorry for you that you think the police are above the law.

You'd almost think that when they are "blowing through intersections" with their lights going, they are going to an emergency.

It would be silly of me to suggest that is a problem. I'm talking about cops who hit the lights, buzz thru an intersection, then kill the lights and carry on. Unless you want to pretend that never happens?

The problem here, is you are thinking that they are doing it strictly to get through the intersection, whereas there could be a multitude of reasons as to why they don't continue on with the lights and sirens. Perhaps the call they are going to is sensitive and they don't want to alert the bad guys, or maybe the call got cancelled. Most likely though, they were late for their coffee break.

I have seen a Police car do it, and quite frankly I couldn't care less. I have no idea if they did it to get to Tim's earlier or if there was important Police business they had to get to.

If you are so late for something that you curse waiting at a light when those stinking pigs can blow right through it, then maybe that is your problem. I understand the whole principle thing about it, but who really cares.

If I was a cop I would probably do it to.

Just because they do that doesn't mean they are abusing their power in other places.

Yes, you have to setup officers at EVERY intersection, or the program would be completely ineffective. Just like speed traps, they have to put those at dozens of locations at the same time, otherwise they are simply not going to do any good.

A few years ago I saw the aftermath of a Cop that blew threw a red light just because he could. Lambasted a guy good, Cop car had no light flashing, no siren. So you may not care, but the guy that was hit cared quite a lot.

Meh, next time you come to a speed on green camera, drop your speed about 30 clicks in about 2 seconds. That way for sure you'll obey the law. You gotta obey the arbitrary measures put forth by our city council and police brass that passes for the law!

How did people get in their cars and arrive anywhere alive over the past 50 years? With all the new traffic laws and "preventitive" crap like this coming into play it's a wonder any of us are alive right now.
This is madness. Everybody pay a tax to replace a tax that is COMPLETELY voluntary? If you don't want this action to impact you the solution is very obvious. Frankly I'm very pleased the city will be generating ****loads of revenue that won't be coming from me.

Yeah I'm happy the city can make some money via this route. I speed as much as the next guy (actually probably more, a lot more) but I know I will get tickets for this style of driving, I'm happy to pay $50 to save a lot of time on the roads.

You have no idea what they are doing. Many times they need to get to a call or a scene without lights and sirens but need to get there ASAP. But clearly, you know everything there is to know about police operations.

I don't mind to pay this "luxury tax" for speeding. I just hate when you get a real ticket because eventually the insurance rates go up.

And red light cameras ARE a cash grab. So are the speed on green. But it's like any other camera ticket. If you know where they are, they're easy to slow down and ride the brake for.
