RIM and Apple need to develop their own OS from the ground up as well as the hardware unlike phone manufacturers like HTC and Samsung who are just given Android for free and can choose to add their own stuff or leverage the other members of the OHA.

I don't consider $150-$200 difference to be "around the same price point". But we'll agree to disagree.

What $150-$200 difference? The prices I looked up for used iPhone 3G's and 3GS's were the same as a used Blackberry Bold, not $150-200 different.

If you're talking about new prices differences, I'm not saying they're around the same price point, I'm saying they're relatively expensive. Something expensive will, in general, cost more used than something cheap that's used.

The other posts about there being a sub-$500 smartphone available and what you bought a phone for at a special price etc are completely irrelevant to that point.

Unrelated to the current discussion, I just wanted to let everyone know that I just added my iPhone, iPad and my wife's iPhone to our home insurance as "floaters" (tee-hee), which means they'll be replaced with a $25 deductible should anything occur. It even covers "mysterious disappearance" and water damage.

All in it ends up costing me about $6 per month. Considering Apple Care would cost that per device without offering the same level of protection I'd say it's a pretty solid deal.

Has the 'Find my iPhone' stuff been consolidated into a link that an 'unsophisticated' multiple iPhone owner could implement?

Links, possibly?
In return, I offer this Christmas gif from this week's end...

All taxes and fees included a brand new off-contract Desire is $472 at Future Shop. Almost a year old, it's still arguably the best phone you can buy in Canada.

Except that it's an Android phone. I can't stand using Android. But I love WP7.

What specifically can't you stand about it? Pretty much exactly the same as iOS in terms of performance and useability. I'd argue it's even more useable from voice commands, swype or other keyboards.

We have probably 10 android devices around the office here, and I find the user interface to be almost comical. I find that they're slower to respond to my touches, the keyboard on the G2 isn't very good, the galaxy tab is too small for my liking.

There's a tonne of stuff that I just don't think is designed very well. My first moments on an LG Optimus 7 was awesome, I even thought that it was a better experience than iOS, plus the keyboard was really easy to use.

While this is treading on dangerous territory of thread derailment, this is the number one reason I can't use an android device. I've used 5 separate phones and they all seem to have this problem.

I still can't get my 3G to update to the latest software. Clicking on the update button on iTunes when the phone is connected, seems to only check for iTunes software despite saying there is an update for my phone available. Anyone know what I need to do? I tried to manually download the update, but that didn't work either.

Where are you checking for updates? Under the Help menu? Or on the Update button after clicking on the device?

What does the text beside the Update button say?

What version of iTunes do you have?

When the iPhone is connected, I am clicking the button that's on the "home page" if you will for my iPhone. It says that there is new iPhone software available (4.2), but when I click the update, it for some reason just checks for iTunes updates. It also does the same thing if I go through the iTunes menu at the top and search for updates.

ok, face time question.

I have a friend I want to facetime with, so we start the call with regular long distance. I dial 1 204 and then number.

During the call we switch to facetime. This ends the long distance call, or not? Do the minutes stop? If you end facetime, the call stays seamless right, so, does the phone company charge you for the whole LD call or stop the clock during the facetime?

Hm weird.

You could try downloading the update from another site (http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/) and then Shift-Click the Update button and browse to the update.

My mom had a similar problem.

I think to fix it, we redid the itunes update, closed itunes and then reconnected the ipod and tried again. We tried quite a few things so I don't know for sure what exactly did the fix.

I've got a Mac, and I can't right click on the update button. I've tried shift, control, apple button...it just clicks it and says iTunes is already updated. *sigh*
