Default Help with my Commute (any tips and advice welcome) thanks.

Our office will be moving in the new year and my commute will now be from the deep south (Mackenzie) to 1520 - 4th Street SW, kind of by the Rose & Crown. What is going to be the best way for me to get there? Google suggested Deerfoot Trail (N) to Southland Drive to Blackfoot Trail (N) to 42nd Avenue to Macleod Trail (N) to 17th Avenue! Others have said take Anderson to Macleod Trail (N) all the way to 17th. Some said take Elbow Drive which turns into 4th Street and one person even said take Crowchild (N) to Richmond Road / 17th Ave. I will be working 8:30am to 4:30pm.

I need your help! Any tips or advice from experience or your knowledge of the city? I have always live and worked in the deep south so anything past Glenmore during rush hour is new to me. What will I be looking at as far as traffic, approximate length of commute? etc. Thanks so much for any tips, much appreciated.

I don't commute that direction in the mornings - but Crowchild (N) seems like a roundabout way. You're going pretty far west just to backtrack 20+ blocks east on 17 Avenue.

I find the best way in this City is to keep it simple. Typically if the main route gets clogged, all the side routes are as as well. I would do Deerfoot, Memorial, 4th ave flyover, south on 5th st.

Whatever you do, avoid Macleod Tr in the morning. Way too many lights.

If you leave for work before 7am, use this route:

Others have said take Anderson to Macleod Trail (N) all the way to 17th.

If you leave after 7, use Google's route. You will avoid everyone coming in from Okotoks, etc when Macleod starts to get busy.

I've discovered that doing about 8-10 over the limit will ensure you get mostly greens the whole way. But again, this is before 7am.

I worked down in that area for 10 years... Rathji's route above is about as good as you will get.

I made that very commute for 2 years. What Rathji said is the best way except I avoided ogden road, the barlow/ogden area in the south cause it was an absolute disaster at times.. 3 days a week it would save you 10 min over deerfoot to blackfoot but 2 days a week it would take you an hour longer.. I almost always came home that way though.

Take deerfoot it's way more entertaining, women putting on thier makeup, people eating cereal, peeps yelling at each other... you never know what you're gonna see on the deerfoot...

Shepard can be slow moving at times but at least it's moving. Barlow on the most parts is quite congested and if you through in an odd train or two and it's a total stand still.

Instead of taking Deerfoot & Barlow to get to Shepard, I would suggest that the OP take 52nd Street northbound and then 106 Ave. westbound and then his merge onto Barlow takes him directly to the Shepard turnoff. On the days that Deerfoot is backed up, getting to Shepard will take over 30 minutes. Now that 52nd is divided and twinned to 106th, this route is quite congestion free.

However, on those days when a train does block 52nd street, then turn westbound on 114th Ave and then take your first right off 114 to get to 106th.

No matter how you slice it, your office moving to the core is going to add some serious driving time to your day.
