So in saying that...you are obviously an educated guy, what makes you believe in your version of Christianity vs no belief?

Since that "makes sense to you" have you ever thought of creation as a natural occurrence? Every year we are finding new scientific explanations for the birth of the universe and as far as I know not one of them talks about god.
Believing in a creator god is one thing but believing in a religious god borders on insanity...nothing about a religious god "makes sense to me"
Fairy tales.

I'm just wondering, do athiests just take the nice traditions, change it to something accomodating, ignore the original purpose of the day and the beliefs associated with it?

I've always been surprised at the number of physiologists and ecologists that believe in both (creationism and evolution). When asked about it, usually they say they choose not to think about it.
I did my undergrad in the USA, and passively I thought I noticed that a higher proportion American's, than Canadian's believe in creationism. Are there any stats on that?

What's wrong with a bunch of atheists exchanging gifts on the 25th of December? I'm an atheist, and I don't see any reason to complicate that with religion. It's just a nice tradition that brings family and others I love, together.

Fine but athiesm is that rejection of a belief and its system why bother flirting with it?

True and Dec 25 was chosen as the day of Christmas because of pagan celebrations during that time of the year. Its all competition so to speak, I like to get an athiest's gears when they "celebrate" Christmas, I say why bother at all if you don't believe in its foundation for the day.

For the same reason I can go to a gay bar with my gay friends, despite the fact that I'm straight.

Do you ask the bar to change the sign so it is politically correct and accepting of all males? Happy Holidays

Laugh. You really got my gears.
I bother because it's fun to eat turkey and drink booze and exchange presents. Do you think I should stop because I don't attach supernatural significance to the day?

Actually I don't mind Happy Holidays because it's inclusive of all the holidays being celebrated. That being said, anyone who throws a fit over "Merry Christmas" is an idiot.
