Tailors in Calgary
Hi CP,
I would like to know what the best tailor/alterations place is for suits/dress pants in Calgary. Obviously the best price is ideal, but I don't want garbage sweatshop stitching either.
Thanks

There's 3 ladies that run a small place in Lakeview Plaza that are very good and very reasonable rates.
They did some work on an evening dress that had organza in it and that stuff is a witch to sew. They did awesome!

The best? The Tailor Shop on 37th and 17th.
He's one of only 6 bespoke tailors in Canada, and the only in Calgary.
He'll charge you bespoke prices though. $20 to hem a pair of pants.

They do bespoke work.

I live in the community and have used them for a number of years.....satisfied every single time (quality and price). I've had them hem pants, take in suit jackets, even repair a tattered shirt (that I love)....all kinds of stuff.

Do you happen to recall what the going rate was for taking in a suit jacket?

Bespoke just means custom made. A bespoke suit is a suit made specifically for you by a bespoke tailor. You would go in, choose the fabrics and exactly what you want, and the tailor would actually physically make the suit for you. You would have to go in a couple times to make sure the fit is correct, and the suit might take a few weeks to make, but the results are much better than off the rack suits.
You can also get bespoke shoes made and anything you can think of really.
Finding a tailor who actually does bespoke work is a bit of a difficulty in Canada. They generally tend to hang around more "stylish" places like New York, Paris, London, etc. and to learn the craft requires years of training, most likely in Italy.

There are traveling bespoke tailors who will come to Calgary, measure you and have you pick out fabrics and then send the suit back to Hong King or Taiwan to get made.

God I'm gonna get flamed for this.
Anyways, I have always gone to Sears in Chinook Centre to get my stuff tailored. Probably because I live like 2 blocks away, but they honestly do an excellent job. I have bought a few 400 suits off the rack there, got em half price, spent 30 bucks, and had them fit perfectly. Plus they can usually turn stuff around same day, or at worst in 24 hours if you are in a pinch.
