Toronto's Rebuild Continues
Just after the quarter way point, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how the team will look for next year. Players are coming and going, and fresh faces are coming to Toronto. Some may stay, most will go, but along the way, I'll post where I think players will play going forward.
First Line:
LW - Clark McArthur (NHL - Toronto)
C - Pierre-Marc Bouchard (NHL - Minnesota)
RW - Nic Bergfors (NHL - Atlanta)
Second Line:
LW - Viktor Stalberg (NHL - Chicago)
C - Daniel Winnik (NHL - Colorado)
RW - Benoit Pouliot - (NHL - Montreal)
Third Line:
LW - Nathan Gerbe (NHL - Buffalo)
C - Kyle Wilson (NHL - Columbus)
RW - Christian Hanson (NHL - Toronto)
Fourth Line:
LW - Jake Dowell (NHL - Chicago)
C - Fabian Brunnstrom (NHL - Dallas)
RW - Derek Dorsett (NHL - Columbus)
First D:
D -
D - Cody Franson (NHL - Nashville)
Second D:
D - Michael Del Zotto (NHL - New York Rangers)
D - Ryan Wilson (NHL - Colorado)
Third D:
D - Oliver Ekman-Larsson (NHL - Phoenix)
D -
Goalies:
G - Michal Neuvirth (NHL - Washington)
G - Steve Mason (NHL - Columbus)
G - Anton Khudobin (NHL - Minnesota)
As you can see, it's a work in progress, and there's a lot of roster players under contract that most likely won't be back next season, hopefully filling in some of the holes you see above.
LW - Emerson Etem (Anaheim System: WHL 32GP 21-14-35)
RW - Nathan Moon (Pittsburgh System: OHL 31GP 19-24-43)
D - Nicolas Deslauriers (Los Angeles System: QMJHL 19GP 5-13-18)
The current trade block looks like this:
Tim Connolly TO DAL
Steve Sullivan
Cory Stillman
Nik Havelid
Brendan Witt
Kurt Sauer
Sergei Samsonov
Ruslan Fedotenko
We're very excited where this team is heading, and we're looking to get back into being compeditive next season.
I'll try and update this thread as the season goes on.

I like a lot of the pieces - not a lot of first liners with the big club - but I see some guys in the pipeline that could turn into front liners.
The key now is patience!

Hey Rob, not to call you out here or anything, but I had PMd you a while ago. Did you get a chance to take a peek at that at all?

To MIN:
Zack Boychuk
Andrej Sekera
2nd (EDM) 2011
To TOR:
Luke Schenn
When thinking about doing the rebuild, there were two names that in the words of Dr. Ray Stantz, "just popped in there".
I've managed to get get both of them off of Grant.
It started with Mike Del Zotto, and now the Leafs have brought in Luke Schenn. He's a steady solid kid. We just hope he doesn't pick up all of Dion Phaneuf's habits.
Thanks to Grant for the talks.

I've followed Boychuk for many years now and wanted him in the CPHL draft but couldn't make a move to get a high enough pick.
Schenn is playing really well for the Leafs this year and is a great building block for Rob. Sekera fills in short-term for me - and I add a couple nice long-term pieces.

Yeah, Boychuk is a wildcard for me. He's hyped to pan out, but hasn't yet. Do you wait, or do you go and get a piece that can help you right now.
It could bite us in the ass in the future, but this is a turn-a-round rebuild, not a 5-year plan. We're glad to bring in a great young tallent like Schenn.
Could allow OEL to make the team next season as a 5-6.

Another move has been made. Film at 11 (Which is code for 'will be posted after I get my cheese room trade processed').

The new deal has been approved.
To DAL:
Mike Sauer (Playing in NYR, a solid Dman putting up some good numbers), CAR 1st (Currently 7th overall), BUF's 3rd, and 0.75M in Cap.
To TOR:
Viktor Stalberg, Tyler Bozak, Fabian Brunnstrom.
A risk vs. reward type deal for both teams. We like the package we got, but it's hard moving a young solid Dman, and a top 10 pick, especially in the middle of a rebuild.
Thanks to 'Other Rob' for the trade talks.
We are currently looking to move the following players, and wouldn't rule out an upgrade of the above players that are 'penciled' in for next season. Cheese room is a factor right now, but hopefully something can be worked out.
Tim Connolly (Injured 2W)
Steve Sullivan
Ethan Moreau
Miro Satan
Cory Stillman
Nik Havelid
Sami Softy Salo
Brendan Witt
Kurt Sauer

Maybe I should start a "Call Out Jamieson For Not Responding To PM's Within A Desired Amount Of Time Thread".
And a small FYI, I'm normally only available online durring work hours. I'm barely on my computer at home anymore.
Having said that, I'm trying to get about 3 weeks of work done this week, as it is a crazy time for me, being Christmas et all. To those I'm making wait, or have made wait, I do appologize, I'm trying to pick my time wisely here.
Thanks for the understanding.
