Nudity vs. Violence
This is borne of a discussion of sorts in the Hot Women Thread.
Why is something like the blood, guts, gore and violence such as the TV series Walking Dead, ok, but nudity on TV is not? Why is the general public so much more at ease with seeing someone killed as opposed to naked?
Now, I have a feeling that "think of the children!" would figure pretty quickly into this, and while I am not a parent myself (nor do my wife and I plan on having kids) I'd think that I'd rather have a child of mine see a naked person instead of one getting their head blown off.
It just seems rather odd to me, upon reflection, that society doesn't seem to have much of an issue with showing violent acts, but a naked body is, as was stated in the thread itself, verboten.

Two points... and I'm sure a smarter man could prove me wrong.
First point, because the violence isn't real. It's fake, we know it's fake, the children know it's fake. When a titty gets shown on TV, it's real (well, breat implants aside), so maybe that's why.
Second point.. we are just used to it. Nudity = Bad..... Violence.. okay. I don't know the genesis of it.. but that's the way it is.

Violence is a form of control. Nudity is a form of freedom.
For authoritarian structures trying to preserve or propagate themselves, this makes nudity more harmful than violence.

I prefer to see neither. I don't really know what the answer to that would be. Maybe it goes back to eating the forbidden fruit. When adam and eve ate it they realized they were naked and wanted to cover up. So many its human nature to want to cover up? Who knows! Id rather have my kid see violence than see a naked member of the opposite sex although i'm not sure why lol

Many European countries have nudity on nightly television, but they don't show blood or different violent acts that we see on our nightly T.V. They also have lower crime rates, fewer murders per capita, etc... than North America.

More people are desensitized to violence and see it as a normal part of life. Since sex has always been more controlled, exposure to it in a non standard manner is considered deviant and subject to the labeling of the person involved and the sanctions that go with it.
ie the school yard bully doesn't face any serious reaction from society in general but the LGBT kid would almost certainly.

When looking at exposure to children
I think their is some research that shows that early exposure to small amounts of pornography can affect children's views on sex. So if this is correct that small amounts do more 'harm' than small amounts of violence then we have it right.
I however suspect that it really is all context for how sex is shown that is more important than just nudity.

Heck yes, but then again it's premium cable. Turn on CBS, a broadcast network, in the 8 o'clock hour and catch something like Criminal Minds or Medium? Some pretty gruesome scenes. Not massively gory or anything, but you can sure make an argument that they should let a little boob slide once in a while.

So our children might find out that sex isn't something to be ashamed about? Heaven forbit! that it a natural part of life, unlike killing someone.
I'm not picking on you GGG. We arnt even talking about porn though, it's a boob here and a bare as* or *gasp* bush! Its anatomy... I for one would gladly let my child see nudity over violence. Why north Americans, mostly Americans think that seeing a boob is more harmful to a child then seeing someones head blow up is crazy, I need to see a report that backs these facts up.

Because people often submit children to studies where they watch lots of porn?
Both have an effect, but the effect that violence has is more socially acceptable than the effect porn has.

I wasn't thinking porn but nudity... But is it any better to do a study that subjects children to extreme violence, even if it is simulated?
Nudity vs Violence not Porn vs Extreme Violence. There is a huge difference between seeing a boob and watching porn.

And simulated violence is the gateway to "2 guys, 1 hammer"?
I know your post was in jest, but some people actually believe that one leads to the other!

I don't understand why some people are so up in arms (no pun intended ) We get enough of both of these things in media.
Violence is glorified, and nudity is used, for the most part, as a way to oppress females indirectly.
