course that could just be blamed on their terrible website. it can't even tell me if the Optik service is available in Chestermere, i get an error when running the availability check
As far as I know all Turbo plans come with 2Mbps upload. My Actiontec modem/router says that the download is about 31Mbps and upload 3 Mbps but I guess these are the max values, the actual values vary on the specific situation at a given location. On my tests my max was 24.1Mbps (so 1mbps less than the advertise 25Mbps) without the TV on. Max upload I got was 2.4Mbps with a ping of 6ms. Overall, I am pretty happy, it is plenty fast.

Try to phone in to ask about your location, the on-line thing didn't work for me either. Not all locations have Optik, and even if they have it, they might not have the Optik Turbo. If you live in a new neighbourhood, most likely Optik Turbo is available.

What do you get without TV? It should be around 28Mbps , I think each HD feed takes about 5Mbps. Can you please post it? It is incredibly high for regular Optik, which is supposed to be at around 15Mbps.

About usenet: if you were with Shaw, they have a free server. Telus doesn't. I subscribe to newsdemon for $9/month. Alternatively, astraweb sells 200GB for about $22 (no expiry).

Yup. I'm assuming that impacts things somehow?

I will check right after the Walking Dead finishes

I did a quick speed test before even turning on the PVR and I was getting about 14.5mbps. Of course only losing 1.5mbps to 3 HD streams makes no sense... I'll take a closer look later.

Had Optik TV installed today. 1 PVR and 2 boxes. Installation dude did a bang up job with the wiring..A+.
Actiontec seems like a decent router (better then the old crappy d-link they used to use). However, I did disable wireless on it as I use an Apple eco-system for my routing needs (Airport extreme's and some express's)

Unfortunately my area can only handle Optik Internet and not turbo, so I am limited to 1HD 2SD.

Getting 15mb/s speedtest with TV off, all 3 on somehow getting 10mb/s still with 1 on HD (not recording).

Was on Telus high speed turbo before, and shaw before that. Im a telus fan, and with their iPhone app should be fun to choose to record shows if I can't make it home!

hmm, I wonder if it is my area... I can only seem to get 1 HD stream regardless of the TV thats on - I am going to call in because I was told I was in a 3HD area (fiber to my street).

For the record, Telus customer service has been an absolute disaster for me so far. Here's the point form version of my Telus hell:

- Installation of HD-PVR, 2nd box, and XBox 360 scheduled for Saturday, December 4th.
- Installer does not appear
- Call Telus, appointment was changed to December 5th (they just didn't inform me)
- Sunday, installer appears 2 hours late.
- Installer does not bring XBox 360
- Installer does not have permission to install 2nd box
- Call Telus to schedule completion of installation, cannot process request until Monday
- Monday, call Telus to schedule completion of installation, they will call me back when they can process request
- Telus does not call back
- Finally call Telus again on Friday, book appointment for Wednesday, Dec 15th
- Eagerly anticipate how they'll screw up next

On the plus side, the tech is fantastic. I generally don't need a great deal of customer support so I'm hoping this won't be a problem.

Guess it's hit or miss. We had called in Wednesday to book the appointment for Monday at 8-10 AM. Installer showed up at 9 AM. Getting that timeslot is best as it is the first of the day- as if it is a later appointment they might be running late etc.

...on second look the terminal is credited back to me on the back page of the bill.

Sounds like a terminal rental charge. If that's the case they'll check to see how long it's been going on and credit you on your next bill.

Wow sports junky you are right! Next page it shows it being credited back. Life now makes sense! And I just saved myself an hour of time to waste on hold with shaw

Are hold times still bad with Shaw? I was under the impression the flood of people they hired were getting the wait times really low again. I called last week and was on the phone for less than 10 minutes, probably about half of which was spent on hold. It was during the day, so maybe that is why.

I had to call them a week ago and waited 15 minutes. Definitely better than the 45 minutes the two times before that.
