The rebuilding continues for the Flames.
Gerbe is the key to the deal for us. He has finally made it to the NHL and hopefully continues to develop. Almond should be a bottom 6 forward in the NHL in the future and hopefully I can that pick into a decent prospect.

Yes it hurts to deal yet another pick, however we felt that picking up Tommy Cross in this deal made it ok. He's a Boston 2nd rounder currently injured but playing in the NCAA. Kozlov will bring more depth to this team that took a hit when we lost Guerin. With 15 ECHLers already, we like acquiring AHLers and will hold onto our first rounders to fill up for the guys moving up in the off-season

This trade, I don't understand from the Panthers side of it...

Panthers obtain Julien Demers and buy him out..

Rest of the deal

Slava Kozlov (pending ufa --- 64ov)
Tommy Cross (2nd round selection .... 2007 draft ).
4th CBJ

To Florida

2nd this year (30 ish pick).

I've learned to not try and understand the Panther's deals. Just go with it. It's like the sun rising, and setting. It just happens.

Seriously....The Panthers make lots of moves, and manage to accomplish nothing, NOTHING.

I don't ever see you making the playoffs.

I know I am making moves that seem counterintuitive right now.

I was annoyed with Salvador's current status, but still wanted a similar player for next year. So I got the best deal I could on Salvador, which ended up being a possible top 15 pick this year, and then tried to get someone that was an equivalent player, which I did in Corvo.

Next year, goaltending + 4 D spots (Top 3 + 1), and 7 forward spots (bottom 7) are already covered, and I'll still have 20-25 million to add players to that through free agency/trade. That's not including any players that I may add during the season.

It looks messy right now, but that's how it has to be before it gets all cleaned up.

ahhh I get it, the Darryl Sutter approach - build a team through free agency. I wonder how that turned out.

CPHL free agency is terrible, I think the best guy on the market was Aucoin or Guerin last year - can't say those are good building blocks.

In 6 combined sim seasons that I've participated in, I've won 2 championships, and have gone through two rebuilds.

1st league

1st season - basically what I did last year in this league trying to compete, then blew it up
2nd season - built up my prospect base and managed to squeak into the playoffs due to some good free agent signings.
3rd season - won cup

2nd league - this one

Last year, did what I did, blew it up and have built my prospect base up

This year, identify what players that I thought would be good longish term pieces + add to the prospect pool, not going to make the playoffs

Next year, I'll try to squeak into one of the last playoff spots. Not expecting to become one of the better teams in the East for 2 seasons

3rd league

Everyone started from scratch - won cup

This year I'm again 1st in the west on my way to attempt a repeat.

Actually the better forwards I'll probably get through trade like I did with Sturm/Tanguay/Langkow, but there are more than enough mid tier D-men this year that should be available in free agency which will be my primary target.

I'm not really worried at all about getting pieces because various pieces come up all the time. I've just got to be opportunistic.
