Did anyone go to the Teddy Bear Toss this year? Apparently over 23,000 teddy bears were tossed onto the ice for charity! I'm glad a lot of people supported this great cause.

I didn't get a chance to go this year, but have gone to the 2007-2009 ones. It's always amazing to see (and fun if you can get lower bowl tickets and throw the ones that hit you).
We have seasons tickets to the Hitmen and naturally, went to this game. This year, we got to take my step-nephew, who is 5. It is truly amazing to see the world through a child's eyes. He was so thrilled.
We sit just inside one of the 200 level "entrances", so we had him standing there, re-throwing bears that landed at our feet...so much fun!
Oh yeah, and great to see the Hitmen win back to back games for, I think, the first time all season!

If the Hitmen don't score, then no one tosses the teddy bears on the ice and the kids in the hospital get squat for Christmas. The Saddledome staff set up a bonfire outside in the parking lot for everyone to toss the bears into as they exit.
It's a sad backup plan. Thankfully it hasn't happened yet.

^^ I've always joked that if they got shutout that it would rain teddy bears as they were booed off the ice. Yesterday's game was great though. I had seats right behind the rebels bench and got pelted about half a dozen times with bears.
Talking about being almost shut out at a teddy bear toss...this is a pretty good clip from the Winterhawks against the Giants winning it in OT 1-0.

The Hitmen shut Red Deer out for the Rebels' TBT game a few years ago. As I recall, organizers had fans throw their bears after the second period. For most, I suspect they would have fans throw the bears at the end of the game.
I go to the Teddy Bear toss every year in Lethbridge. One year the 'Canes weren't doing so hot... I think it was against Calgary. Calgary went up 4-0 and some boo birds started throwing their bears on the ice. So they announced that they're only doing this once and that everybody should through them on the ice. Probably only half the crowd did, and when the 'Canes finally scored in the 3rd period the rest of the people threw the bears on the ice.
Another year the Canes scored in the first minute of play and a lot of people weren't even at the game yet. I think the late comers were allowed to throw them in the 1st intermission, or take them somewhere else in the building.
This year they had a contest and one fan got the chance to pick within which minute the Hurricanes would score their first goal. The guy chose between 18:00 and 19:00, and won a cool $2100 when the 'Canes scored at around 18:22 or so.
I was just contacted by ESPN. They asked to have my permission to use my video. Not sure how they will show it though? Anyone with a similar experience before?

It will probably be shown during a 30 seconds "in other news" type section of Sportscenter, and maybe on their website. I doubt you'd see any more than that.

The Hitmen did that a couple years ago too. They scored about a minute in, then again about three minutes in. Basically, there were bears thrown on our first three goals, after which the PA announcer had to tell people to stop throwing the bears or Calgary risked a penalty.
It's rather amazing to see how viral this has gone all of a sudden. One of the things I'll never understand about the internet... why this year and not last? lol
