Finally saw it after 3 weeks of trying to find a babysitter. Not sure if it was everybody saying it was the best movie they've ever seen, but it did very little for me. I initially thought I went full-###### and didn't understand it ( and there were some things), but after reading the links I'm still not swayed. Enjoyable but i can think of better ways to spend $12.

Purely my opinion. Clearly many of you feel otherwise. I'm a giant Nolan fan, so perhaps that had my hopes too high as well. While i thought it was pretty good, it was easily my least favorite Nolan movie.

Yep, not a bad movie but nothing to go completely bonkers over.

Safe to say the hype killed it for you?

Probably destroyed it. You know after a few days to think on it I like it a little more, and my guess is because now i'm looking at it as just another movie and not a candidate for the best movie of all time.

Like somebody else said, it's impressively solid in terms of plot holes. There's a lot to like about it, just not sure I'd watch it again.

I actually got more out of it the second time.

Finally got around to seeing it last night, Inception was a fantastic film, the best I’ve seen in along while. Such a brilliant portrayal of a very clever idea, all aspects of the film where very all done, plot, acting, writing, cinematography, all fantastic.

Once I got what was going on it became apparent to me that their portrayal of reality was actually a dream of Cobs. It had all the hallmarks of what they explained a dream to me. It didn’t really have a starting point, in that even the audience wasn’t really sure how they arrived in that reality. There where to many circumstances that seemed to extreme to be real. Which made me think, was Mol actually right? Was it Cob that was lost in limbo unable to define what was and what wasn’t reality?

Some of the articles that have been posted are very insightful in viewing the films big picture, I especially enjoy the parallels between film making and dreaming.

9/10

Arg, just lost the whole post so this is a re-write:

Ok, I just saw this movie and I came to this thread to find the answers to a couple continuity questions.
Only seen it once, so maybe I missed some of this stuff:

The father in the mountain fortress, was he a plant or a projection?
Was the team relying on him feeding himself the idea based on the set-ups from the previous levels? Isn't that why the artitecht was going to put them in a hospital, isn't it taking a huge risk that the vault would be filled with something else? Fear of death, or some deep-seeded shame?
If it was a plant, how did he know about the "dissapointment" which they didn't learn until they were 'under', and there were no un-accounted for team members.

I also don't understand the zero-gravity effect, why would being airborne in one realm cause gravity to cease in the next, but not the following?
The van is airborne (and being acted upon by gravity), why would that remove gravity from the hotel, is that a projection of the subject (and if so, why would it not affect the winter fortress?)

Also, while testing the inner-ear balance/wake-up trick, anytime the dreamer was falling he awoke...yet when the van flipped and fell it had no affect on any of them, even the team member waiting in the hotel. Why wouldn't he have awoke?

And that's igoring some of the standard movie silliness like knocking out an imaginary soldier by bonking his helmet, an imagninary army being too weak to disable a van - perhaps the subject was too vain to conjure anything more than his personal security - but why not supply them with tanks and rocket launchers instead of sub-machine guns?

Overall I really liked the movie, regardless of these minor annoyances. I liked the amibition and I liked the acting. I'm just a stickler for a movie to obeying it's own rules.

Also, reading back, I totally agree with Hack&Lube, very standard movie-fare considering the scope they had to work with.

Especially ironic considering Nolan's characters made a point of mocking the team member without imagination.

Saw this thread resurface last week. Just wanted to give a heads up to everyone that it's hitting stores on December 7th. Good Christmas gift idea.

Bumpity bump. It is now out on digital video disc and blu-ray.

Fantastic film. I liked it much better on the second viewing and I thought it was pretty good the first time.

Spoiler!

kinda cool video, its better if you watch it at youtube than embedded because the comments show up

but it speeds up the dreams to show them in 'real time' comparatively

Very cool but obviously wrong in a lot of respects.

No such thing as "real time" because in none of the 4 levels do we see every single second. There are numerous things left out.

That is at best a not horrible estimation of what was going on at each level simultaneously.

Just finished re watching it on a nice big screen with big sound. I think I loved it just as much as the first time. Plenty of little things I picked up that I completely was oblivious to in the first watch.

Easily, my favorite movie of the year. Loved every minute of it.

I would place it a close second to The Social Network. Very different movies though.

Plus TSN had the best score of the year too. Whoever is responsible for that score must be a genius.

Totally agree about the little things. One of those movies that is so rich that you can pick up on all the little intricacies each time you watch it.

Having had about the worst opinion going into the Social Network I have to say it won me over. I thought it was the stupidest idea in movie history, then I watched it and it became one of my Top 3 for the year.

Better than Inception? I don't know it is a tough one. Having re-watched Inception I think it is a tad long. 3 Hours for Lord of the Rings is awesome, 2.5+ for Inception is pushing it.

It still pisses me off that people think The Social Network is two hours of how to play Farmville.

ya thats why I put "real time"

just thought it was interesting, and ya he missed a lot of it, and I think by the team they went in to Limbo it would be going so fast that you couldn't even make out any images
