Totally agree with the OP...have had to get laser work done on both eyes because of small tears and such, work that might have been a whole lot more serious without getting caught by my optometrist.

Someone could kick you in the nuts and you'd have bigger tears. Problem solved.

I am a current practicing optometrists. Messages like the original thread can never be emphasized enough. As stated by the many examples already in this thread, alot can be seen through a regular eye health exam with regular checkups even if you see 20/20.

Is your user name your birthdate? If so and you have graduated from optometry then wow...I can't even think about how you did that!

^ I hope that is in Jest. Google the date.

As an Optometrist, I am glad for this thread. Everyone should have their eyes checked at least once every 2 years, even if you do not require correction.

How much does an eye exam cost? Is it like dentist appointments where you need to book months in advance?

I've never had my eyes checked since I was a kid in elementary school.

Sorry I'm not up to snuff on my history Not sure how that makes me a bandwagon fan. I was crapping my pants at that age.

I'm glad that I know how to dx graves' disease and treat it, though. In the spirit of the OP, go for your yearly physical.

Anywhere from $90 to $130 depending on the office and the equipment used.

At most you will be booking a month in advance. Depending on the time of year you can even sometimes get in same day or next day. December and June are usually the slowest months.

I get mine checked every three months - having laser corrective surgery necessitates regular check-ups. One of the many benefits.

Must be due to living in a smaller community but I got in a couple of days after I phoned for my check up and it cost me $75.
