Then again you've got our country making pirating more appealing. There's little decent content available here on netflix.

Ughhhh...

All I can see is someone sending a takedown notice for some flimsy copyright violation like a user uploaded picture stolen from somewhere else to our site and all of a sudden we are out of AdSense.

From experience, I have no confidence in Google's automated dispute process if that's how they're going to work with sites to resolve takedown notices.

The point is that the so called freedom loving US government has the ability to take down sites without due diligence. Sure I realize there are workarounds, but unless that ability to take down websites they deem illegal is taken away, it will only happen more and more in the future.

They aren't taking sites down, they are seizing domain names. If you know the IP, you can still get there. They can only seize the domain if it is .com .net .cc or .tv. If it's a .org or one of the many others they can't be seized and redirected.

The funny thing is, even with the relatively weak (but improving) selection on Netflix, it has been hugely successful since it was launched here in Canada. It proves that Canadians are willing to pay for content if it is delivered efficiently and affordably.

The industry, of course, doesn't want to hear that. They want to keep the "Canada is a haven for pirates" mantra going for as long as they can while they lobby the government to make it illegal to put your own DVDs onto an iPod, for example.
