The A's have basically walked away from Beltre. He really wants to go back to Boston but if the Sox do end up trading for Gonzalez there is no way they bring Beltre back. Look for the A's to end up with Matsui and or Pena.

Is this from your source Flick? Or just speculation? Pena would be a nice fit in Oakland, they really need that big bat in the middle of their order.

I know that they have had a meeting or 2 with Matsui, Pena is my idea but my buddy did tell me Beane would like him back but with Boras as his agent, it is probably unlikely. Beane said yesterday he is going to the meetings looking for free agent hitters so who knows.

I fully agree. Never been a worth fan anyways, but there is little-to-no chance of getting any real value out of that contract.
Edit: ...forgot to mention the 300+ K's over the past 2 seasons...that's not likely to improve either.

Sweet lord, how does that work then? Can we expect an extension? I thought the allotted time the Red Sox had to negotiate a contract had come and gone with nothing done? I wonder if this deal has altered a bit, with no extension being signed? Meaning, did the Red Sox give up less after not being able to reach an extension.

Sounds like the same 3 prospects plus a PTBNL. I wonder if Beltre will make a call to the A's now?

With the Crawford signing, I can see Cliff Lee as an Angel this weekend

The Angels were after all hitters. I think they have to sign Beltre now and I would be absolutely shocked if the Yankees are not all over Lee now, along with Downs and probably want Pettitte back as well. Boston has a Left handed heavy lineup.

Looks like the AL East just got stronger with Carl Crawford signing with the Red Sox for seven years and 142 million.
Man I hate baseball and the absence of a salary cap, combined with the fact that my favourite team is stuck in it (the Jays)
Also feel bad for the Rays for losing some good players to free agency

Bit surprised about the Red Sox getting Crawford. That's alot of money and alot of years for a player who known more for speed than anything. This also makes the Red Sox very left-handed. Ellsbury, Crawford, Gonzales, Drew, Ortiz and whoever else they get.
AL East better stock on leftie relievers.

Crawford was in the AL East before, so it doesn't really make the AL East stronger, it just shifts the power around a little bit. The Rays might have a rough time now.
