I am a little worried that Gregg and Frasor may accept arbitration when clearly the Jays are hoping for the picks on all of them.

If they accept, they are still quality pitchers... there is no risk for the Jays.
Buck has already signed, Jays will get a pick for him
I would bet Scott Downs will sign with another team, he is a type A free agent
Miguel Olivo, will probably sign some where else. landing the Jays another pick
If I had to guess the only player who could accept the "Arbritration" is Jason Frasor.
Either way, Jays have done a good job.

Upton talks are dead. Also, I would have to agree and say I hope none of them accept arb. Yes, they may be quality players, but it's about getting value while they have value. I'm worried about the state of the bullpen for 2011, but players like Frasor are easily replaceable.

Everything is dead right now, but winter meetings are a week away and things will heat up then for sure.

I agree on both points, but they kind of cancel each other out.
If these veterans accept then our bullpen is likely strong (Frasor has not been a below-replacement-level player for the past seven years (WAR > 0)), but if they decline we can expect a great draft.
I also hope they decline especially Gregg, and want to see Purcey closing next year.
What are people expecting from Lind next year? Full time DH or 1B?
Platoon DH/1B/LF?
If he gets back his stroke I'm fine with him as a DH if we can add some defense and OBP with a new left fielder. I'm worried that Lind as a full-time first baseman will be a downgrade from Overbay in too many areas - defense, walks, pitches per at-bat - without enough of a power upgrade.

Lind just needs to find his 2009 stroke and then you're back to having an above average AL first baseman.

Lind just went through the "sophmore slump" last year. I wanna see him as our everyday 1st basemen in 2011 and look forward to him getting back to his old self. Getting around 30 HR and .300 average shouldn't be out of the question. Yes it's a downgrade on the defense but so is almost every other 1st basemen in the league compared to Overbay, he has one of the best gloves in the league.

There is lots of speculation going around that Scott Downs has rejected Arbitration.
Which leaves the Jays with pending decisions from Jason Frasor and Miguel Olivo

Scott Carson kicks around the idea of the Blue Jays going after Papelbon.
Quote:
This is where I think new manager Farrell might have his first impact. The Red Sox already have a closer-in-waiting in Daniel Bard. That may mean that Jonathan Papelbon could be had and with the relationship that Farrell forged with the pitcher as a coach I see this as a possibility. It will come at a cost of prospects, and Papelbon isn`t exactly cheap (arbitration-eligible, $9.35 million salary in `10). But he`s just the type of closer that the Jays will need, moving forward, if they are to contend long-term. Another possibility could be White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, who has fallen out of favour on the south side of Chicago despite averaging 33 saves over his last five seasons. Or perhaps Royals closer Joakim Soria, coming off a 43-save season but on a team continuing to rebuild and looking to add parts.

It's official, Frasor accepts the Jay's offer of arbitration.
Quote:
The depleted Toronto Blue Jays bullpen regained a familiar face Tuesday night when reliever Jason Frasor pulled himself off the open market by accepting the club's offer of salary arbitration.
The right-hander's decision came ahead of a midnight deadline for free agents offered arbitration to either accept or decline.

Only Jason Frasor accepted which is a good thing for the Jays as the Bullpen needed some quality arms.

The closer position should be filled from with-in so we avoid situations like this past season where we were supposed to have an open try-out to the position, but it was basically handed to Gregg by Cito because he'd done it in the past. It also avoids scenarios where the closer is the be-all, end-all guy to close games and isn't pulled when he's clearly having a bad night and can't get the job done.

I agree - I don't get the idea of going after Papelbon from Boston.
As for some other Jays news....:

I believe the Jays still have a dead-line to "tender" a contract to "Lewis" and "Accardo" (today is the dead-line I believe).
If they don't both players will become a UFA as of today.
I bet Accardo is a UFA today.

He hasn't been thrilled with his place within the organization recently. I'm sure he'll be out.
