with all the NFL players that stayed at my hotel this summer, I've came to the conclusion that there will not be an NFL season next year. They have told me the Union wants them to save $ for the lock out. Personally I wouldn't mind it.

Good point...although the CBA doesnt expire until March so there will be lots of current players signed/whatever under the current system.

Yes because there isn't a new CBA yet so they are still working off the old one just uncapped and they would have to pay him Brady/Manning type money as it has to be the average of the top 5 at the position. When you look at the alternatives they don't really have much of a choice unless he stinks it up down the stretch.
|
Average of that level would be somewhere around 15 million. He will get that easy in any open market, and with Kolb only owed 1.4 million next year, its a no-brainer.

Gore and Dominique Zeigler both placed on the IR, and Shane Andrus was released.

With violins most likely playing in the background, Mike Tomlin breaking out the "He's got 2 kids" when talking about the $125K in fines that James Harrison has had to pay this season.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/m...nes-nfl-113010
Ridiculous and Tomlin is out to lunch. I don't think the NFL is going to be passing around a hat putting his kids through college, having signed a $51m contract (with $12 mil guaranteed) last year.
Steelers in general seem to be complaining a lot about refereeing and fines agains them the past couple seasons...maybe a re-watching of Superbowl XL is in order for them.

Harrison has three choices....learn not to lead with his helmet, or hit other players above the shoulder, keep playing the way he does to make 4 million a year and pay out 250k in fines doing so. Or go get a crappy job like a draftsman and make 25 grand a year. I suspect he'd be pretty ticked if he had to settle for a TV job paying him in the low 6 figure range. Poor guy.

No more Gruden on MNF. Taking a job (head coach) with the Miami Hurricanes.

We'll see if that's the case. Seems to be a lot of stuff to the contrary out there that he's going to sign there, some saying Gruden's using it for leverage for an NFL team, some just saying its flat out not true.
Part of the reason for going back to college (if he does) is a) he does appear to be more of a teacher then manager of high priced NFL talent and b) with a potential lockout, maybe no football next year and this gets him working. A few years down the road and he'll be back in the NFL if he wants to.
I liked Gruden on MNF, and that whole crew. Smart without being over the top or talking down to viewers, and not rambling on after every play like virtually all color guys do after each play to try and sound smart (Theisman, Baldinger etc etc). Gruden's a bit of a card but I don't mind that, provides some comic relief. If this is true, wonder if he'll do one last game (and its a good one this week) or even finish the season (unless recruting starts tomorrow).

The Packers placed 2 more guys on IR yesterday...bringing the season total to 13. Over 25% of their roster cannot play any longer this year. All but 4 of them were strters at one point. Absurd. Rough year.

Coaching a big division 1 team would be a much better working environment than any NFL gig.

Finally saw the Derek Anderson "freakout". After a couple days of hearing about it, I gotta say I was underwhelmed. Ya he definitely got hot and went a little overboard, but that's not even in the same stratosphere as Dennis Green or any of the recent flipouts. Frankly I don't get why the reporter asked basically the same question after Anderson just mentioned it to someone else right before that, seems like he was just fishing (successfully).

With those projections, it's hard to not see Atlanta as the clear-cut favourite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Their home record is phenomenal.
