Apparently the English bid didn't get past the first round of voting.

Which is why Canada should bid for 2026. Voiding for it automatically excludes Europe and Asia, Africa won't be ready to bid another one so soon, and South America will have been relatively recent as well, plus there aren't many other options to host such a big event. That leaves Australia, with stadium issues, since all their big stadia are being used in June, or North America, where only three countries are big enough to really host the event, and two of those have hosted before.
With a strong, serious bid, Canada would have a realistic chance qt getting 2026, I would think.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Euro 2016 was awarded to Abu Dhabi.

A Canadian bid beating out a US bid for 2026 would take an enormous bribe.

Start times could be 5pm, 7:30pm and 10pm.
It will probably be something like that for European tv.

Not if FIFA awards games like they have for the last 4 world cups. Sure, the US makes the most economic sense, but FIFA doesn't seem to care about that these days. Still, it would still take a strong and serious bid, because you know that the US will have one.

I admit I don't know much about Qatar, so all I know is what I've read on Wikipedia, but it's a tiny nation (11,437 sq km - about twice the size of PEI), with a tiny population (1,696,563).
Apparently, close to 400,000 foreign visitors went to South Africa this year for the World Cup ( http://www.southafrica.info/2010/gt2...sts-061010.htm). That's basically 25% of Qatar's population. I'd think that the support infrastructure needed for that many people would mean there will be a lot of pubs and restaurants and other "western" amenities built to accommodate people.
If Qatar can pull this off, I say screw the rest of Canada, Calgary and Edmonton should join forces and put in a bid for 2026. Two world-class stadiums in Calgary and Edmonton (80,000+ for the WC downgraded to 55,000 for the CFL) and a couple of smaller buildings in Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat to round out the bid.
We've got a few oil barons around here who know how to grease the wheels and play the game.

The difference being that we aren't really anything new in the eyes of the world. Like it or not Canada and the US are largely considered the same thing. Hosting a WC in Russia and Qatar is going to a place and culture that has never hosted a WC. Going to Toronto is not.

But the US has already hosted a world cup, that may work against them, if there is another feasible bid from a country that hasn't hosted before.
I guess what I'm saying is that 2026 might be Canada's best shot at getting it, ever.

Ok let's work this out.
There are 8 stadiums in Canada. (The 8 CFL ones)
BC Place
McMahon
Commonwealth
NEW Taylor Field
NEW Winnipeg Stadium
NEW PanAM Games Hamilton Stadium
Skydome
Stade Olympique
Do we need more? Does Toronto get a new one? Does Ottawa?
Do we build one in the Martimes?

Canada won't have a world cup in our life times, no oil money and or willingness to bribe with the money the country does have

Would have been amazing to attend in England in 2018. Selfishly I was hoping for England/USA.
Russia is intruiging but Qatar is absolutely insane like has been said here and everywhere.
