Electrician has $80million worth of Picassos
Wow this is a pretty interesting story. He says his wife gave it to him but to have over 270 pieces.... sounds pretty fishy to me. He should have just came out with 2 or 3 pieces. that alone would have been enough for him to retire on.

That question lies at the heart of a court case over the origin of 271 Picasso works — a treasure trove of original sketches, paintings and collages that was unknown to the art world a few months ago and unveiled for the public on Monday.
Experts have yet to appraise the full collection, which has been placed under lock and key after a judicial appeal by Picasso’s heirs. But there is little dispute so far over its authenticity. The works, many of which belong to the artist’s Blue and Cubist periods, could fetch more than 60 million euros ($80 million) at auction.

Guess in France you're guilty til proven innocent. Maybe there's more to the story then they report but if I found some unknown Picassos in my basement and the police came and confiscated them even though they're not stolen I'd be bloody pissed.

I like how they convinced the guy to bring them to paris so they could confiscate the works. That family sounds like a real gem.

I saw this on CNN, most of the 270 were just drawings and sketches and of the 30 or so paintings none were "dated" which from what I undersood means they were either not finished or Picasso didn't like them enough to be sold/shown.
It could be that Picassos wife was just cleaning out old trash and gave them to him, the stuff had very little value back then.
How much would you pay for this little sketch?
If it was for sale it would be millions

The guy was Pablo's electrician or something like that, and had access to the art. They speculate he stole it years ago.

Its also speculated that since all of it is unsigned and undated (something he used to do with works he didnt consider worthy) that his wife gave it to the long time electrician who filed it away as useless drawings and then found it one day and thought it might be worth something.

Thats why he is an idiot for bringing out all 271 pieces. If he brought out like 5 or 10 nobody would have suspected anything.

Unless his strategy was to show that he has nothing to hide.
If it came out later that he had more pieces than he led them to believe, then the question of how he obtained them would be even more fishy.

I'm willing to bet that NONE of the pieces were displayed in his house. If i had legitimate picassos i would be hanging them up and showing them off to all my friends.
Thats the thing. I would never release the other 260 pieces. Maybe get relatives to pretend that they found it at a garage sale or something.
