Default CRTC rejects MuchMusic's request to air fewer music videos

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/ent...110648509.html

MuchMusic trying to take after MTV.

Quote:
The CRTC has rejected MuchMusic's request to air fewer music videos in favour of more "lifestyle" programming, but the station will continue to push for changes that a network executive says are key to staying relevant. Much had asked the federal regulator for a number of amendments to its licence — including one that would allow the station to reduce the number of videos it plays to 25 per cent of its total content from the current 50 per cent.

I stopped paying attention completely to this channel when they moved it up into the 100s

I didnt realize they still played videos. That channel really took a swan dive once youtube came out and they stopped playing music vids.

I remember growing up, whenever I would turn on the tv, Muchmusic was one of the first 3 channels I would check to see what was on. I honestly don't remember the last time I turned the channel on in the last few years. Seriously, I never watch that channel anymore. Why a show like Gossip Girl is on muchmusic is beyond me.

I think with the Internet and Youtube, music videos are less relevant on TV. If people want to watch them they'll watch Youtube. If they don't want to watch them, they'll change the channel.

When I was a kid there was always a blank tape in the VCR at the ready to record a cool video, I watched tons of MuchMusic especially the Power Hour and Power 30. Hell, even that countdown show on Fridays had a few decent videos.

Besides the Katy Perry live performance last month which I PVRed, I think it's been around 8 years since I've watched that channel.

I used to watch Much Retro when I was getting ready for work, but they moved me so they can kiss my shiny metal butt.

Bill Welychka was the best. Apparently he's a weather man in Ottawa now. He rocked the countdown back in the day.

MTV pales in comparison to this gem:

Aux.tv actually plays music and music-related shows. It is on 137 on Shaw, and IIRC, it is still on a free preview.

I remember watching the Countdown after school on Fridays, and see who would take the top spot for the week . . . MuchMusic was really the only great way back then to get access to Canadian bands such as Matthew Good, Sloan, Love Inc., Treble Charger, Our Lady Peace and more. It was a fantastically awesome channel in the 90's; it is now a shadow of its former self.
