I spent the summer in South Korea and I have honestly never been to a nicer, more welcoming country. They are superior to Canada in many ways, which I don't think alot of Canadians realize. If North Korea was to start anything I would expect our government to quickly back the South and support them militarily.

George Washington on it's way to Yellow Sea, I wonder if Kim actually realises this one ship could wipe their military off the face of the earth.

This can't do anything to calm the already trigger happy NK crazies.

Unless they are fired upon first. That could get quite dicey. What are American ROEs like?

Depends, they haven't announced a maritime exclusion zone yet, which usually means that up to 1000 miles around the carrier you could be interpreted as hostile.

North Korea is to China what Canada is to the USA. Won't happen.

I think that was misread... NKs could fire first not Americans is what I was saying, Americans may return fire depending on ROEs no?

Chinese aren't going to risk a war that'll affect their economy. If anything they'll topple NKs regime through their spy network if it gets that far.

Sarah Palin forgets (or more likely never even knew) which Korea is the crazy one. While calling into Glenn Beck's radio show, Palin said, "...obviously we’ve gotta stand with our North Korean allies."

Coincidentally, a few days before the North Korean artillery fire, Newsweek published this analysis of aggressive new military leaders gaining influence and power across the Asian region:

Seems everyone from Iran threw to Japan is trying to show muscle, Burma trying to become nuclear with the help of NK? I'll set the over-under at 18 months that there's an "accident" that history wont like.

Unfortunately, with the amount of hardware the NKs have aimed at SK, if the US attacked, they'd simultaneously wipe SK off the map, or at least the majority of the population.

Dealing with crazies always sucks. Can't win proposition.

They really should have planned the country post-war better... Like move more of the important population and industrial centres further south so they are not as much in any sort of immediate risk if hostilities arise.

Right now.. SK will get hurt a lot faster if anything breaks out.

Uhh, Seoul and area have existed for like 2000 years. Pretty hard to just pack it all up and move it.

LOL... But, just bring up the point that back then the immediate climate after the war would have been tense still at best and strategically speaking you wouldn't want that much of your major population centres close to the front.

Russians did do the same thing in the WWII. They moved all the factories and people supporting them from close to Moscow/Stalingrad to behind the Urals... 6+ million people in the industrial centres. Plus with the amount of devastation to the cities and with lots of people having already fled south, maybe rebuilding further south wouldn't have been a bad idea.
