We do a walk around with the customer before they turn over the vehicle just to make sure there is no magic scratches or dents that appear when they are in our posession. Its just one way we can cover our a$$ when they come back a week later with random door ding issues or the magic tail light that worked until it was dropped off (also on the opposite side of where the damage was repaired) but now seems to not work.

My decision to buy a Toyota was based purely off something like this at my Jeep dealer. I DID do a walk around, found a scratch that extended from the front of the driver door all the way to the rear door. Brought the manager out and very politely told him what I saw. His response? "Gee sorry about that. It was on our lot all night so we can't prove it wasn't just kids. That sucks".

I had my old car at Silverhill Acura one time and noticed a big scratch on the bumper when I picked it up. I told the manager and they treated me like gold - loaner car, painted my bumper, apologies, etc.

If they ever put some real muscle in their cars I'd love to own an Acura again if only to deal with that dealership.

Did you notice the scratch before or after leaving the lot?
