Turn down the sound from the video above and play the Benny Hill theme

Yeah if he coasts down the hill he'll be able to steer coming down, but then at the bottom he'll be going 50km/hr and hit whatever's at the bottom at that speed rather than at the 10 or 15 he's sliding wheels locked.

I'd aim for the cars or the curb rather than accelerate down the long hill.

Panic causes a lot of accidents, the first vehicle down in Hemi's post DID NOT lose his/her cool and safely stopped on the same road conditions.

When it is that slick locking up will increase your speed, threshold braking is the only way to stay in control.

LOL, you don't seriously think you can "steer" a car on roads like that do you?

The only thing 100% is you and Potluck have never drove on roads like that.

That's why our insurance rates are so high.

They'd still accelerate down the hill if it was slick enough, that looked pretty much like touching the break would have locked the wheels at almost any speed, so stomping on it IS the threshold lol.

The mistake was going outside, after that it was all downhill.. *chough*

EDIT: Costs less to fix a fender bender at 15km/hr than an accident at 50 at the bottom.

Game show idea: Pinner and Puckluck in identical cars at the top of that hill. Winner goes to whoever causes the least damage. High five if you make it down without hitting anything.

Grow some balls and don't hit anything, like the guy/girl that didn't panic in Hemi's post, same frick'in conditions, loser's locked up, winner's stopped.

Yeah. Thing is, the threshold is pretty much zero, so it doesn't really matter what you do.

i'm not saying they're stupid for putting a road there, i'm saying they're stupid for paving it with concrete. you ever notice how the worst spots on Deerfoot for ice are the sections that are done in concrete? and that's not on a hill in a residential area

I'd give you about a 2% chance of not having a major accident by doing it your way down that hill with other traffic on the road.

As photon said, use a curb, fence or even a car or pole to stop but letting momentum take you with speed on an uncontrollable road on a hill is asking for injury to you or others.

It's not concrete, it's a normal cement road that's been pissed on with freezing rain with a nice touch of powered snow..recipe for a nightmare.
