Looks like a cool device to me. Couldn't ever sacrifice a physical keyboard for real work, but there are a ton of really interesting possibilities here.

Gimmick or upcoming trend?

I liked Microsoft's prototype/mythware version better.

I can't remember what it was called though. JumpBook, or BouncePad or something.

Heh, a monstrous Nintendo DS! Interesting idea though it sounds quite tough to type on when you're used to resting your fingers on the keyboard.

These intrigue me because I think typing on it would be easier than an iPad.

At 14 inches it seems like a bit big for the kind of things an iPad would be used for, although it seems pretty powerful with an i5 and 4GB of RAM, a good sided hard drive. It is pretty heavy though at 6.18 lbs. You still are stuck with Windows 7 as an OS, but it seems they have done a bit to make touch apps work on a layer above the OS, which depending on implementation might actually be workable.

I won't be holding my breathe on this particular device, but I am always glad to see innovation that will eventually lead to a product that is right for my needs.

If you really had to do some typing, wouldn't connecting a wireless keyboard suffice?

Or does that defeat the purpose of the thing?

Do you normally take a keyboard with you when you are bringing a laptop somewhere?

No, but that's because my laptop has a keyboard.

If it's a svelte enough wireless keyboard, I can imagine it being doable.

Oh, and I agree - Acers are POS.

If they get the price of their Android tablets down to $250-300 they'll sell em by the truckload. If anyone is a master of lowering price points it's Acer.
