AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Ohh man....

So I tried your guy's advice running the fan 24/7 and it was so cold last night ... Guess which switch I used..the outside vent fan...ugh.

I will try tonight - I assume inside the electronic thermostat controls I can just set the fan to on and the furnace heater will kick on as dictated by the thermo?

I covered my basement vents with the magnetic covers.

Made a difference in the amount of heat in those rooms- not sure how mush more efficiently the rest of the house is getting heat.

Yes, turning the furnace fan on your thermostat will not impede the heating function of the furnace.

I snagged one of these bad boys for my bedroom (which used to be freezing) at Canadian Tire and it seems to have helped quite a bit:

Is it noisy? We purchased something similar and it was way too loud.

Its noticable but not horrible. Mine is about 3 feet from the foot of my bed and I have never been woken up by it and can fall asleep with it on. Did you have the EQ3 one or whatever it is that sits on top of the register? Apparently that one flows more air but is quite a bit louder.

Not sure what brand it was but it did sit on top of the register. My son would not sleep with it on as it was too loud. Will have to try the one you have. It is very cold in his room.

I put some of those covers on the basement vents (since my basement is empty), and it's made the upstairs really nice and comfortable. It's actually quite warm.

Not looking fwd to the gas bill for this cold snap though.

Our house is 2 years old and my oldest son's room has always been way too cold. The builder brought an HVAC specialist in last week and he "balanced" the house by measuring CFM at the register and adjusting the rest of the house to be a balanced number. (adjustment consists of closing off vents entirely in certain areas or restricting other areas that are getting way too much flow to increase the areas of poor flow)

My son's room went from 40CFM to over 100CFM which helped a lot - but still doesn't make it 100% in my opinion; that is another argument with the builder in regards to insulation.

The only problem now is keeping my kid's grubby paws off the vent adjustments so they don't undo all the work that they just did.
