^There is no lump sum that can be used to build any useful segment of the SE LRT at this time.

The cost increases for monthly passes is part of a three-year program. Off the top of my head, I can't remember which year we are in, but it is either 2 or 3, so the program was announced long before the current council was elected. The prices are in the range of other Canadian cities. For comparison, Toronto's is now at $121.

Yes - his one vote on council is certainly responsible for both of these items. Its scary how clueless people in this City are with municipal politics

If this thread is about Calgary Transit rage, then what the heck happened going NW yesterday evening? I arrived at the 7th street station, and the following trains arrived.

1) City Centre
2) Crowfoot, totally full

So far fair enough, we need more capacity, but they're working on it.

3) Train Says Crowfoot, announcer says City Centre, one full train full of people get off and join the hoarde on the platform
4) City Centre
5) City Centre
6) City Centre

What the heck? 4 Trains in a row turning around? I get that the first one probably broke down, but that's still 3 in a row.

The whole way home the announcements were saying, "Due to cold weather, we're having a 5,10, or 15 minute delay." It was -21 degrees. Calgary gets that cold very regularly, it seems reasonable to design a system where the components are rated for much colder use.

What the heck is going on with train on the NW line this morning? The station was completely full with people crowded out the doors and onto the foot bridge? A lady told me some people were there from before 7.

A Calgary Transit bus stalled out on the tracks near SAIT. I sat on the train looking at it for quite some time. Kind of makes my point about buying equipment that works in winter, since you're using it Canada. The train I was on couldn't move, so that must have backed up all the trains behind.

Took me two hours to get to work from Somerset today. Just brutal how easily the entire system can shut down.

Actually, bus passes were raised by the last council, not this one.

Got to Brentwood station at 8 this morning and there were people waiting to the top of the stairs for a train. Apparently they hadn't seen one heading downtown in 20+ minutes, and those were already full. What a wait that was with the temperature what it was, and what a packed train when everyone finally got on one.

Is there a way to complain to CT about their drivers making dickhead moves? I just about had a bus hit me this morning in my neighbourhood because he decided that he should bypass all cars waiting to turn left and convert his straight-thru lane into a dual turning lane...

Two days ago I spent an hour and 5 minutes waiting outside for buses on a route that I normally wait outside for 9 minutes.

I was extremely happy with my decision to wear long underwear that day.

I got on a little after 7 and got out downtown close to 9. At one point, the train stopped in the tunnel around the Stampede station and we started moving backwards! Guy beside me says "I guess we're going home."

Calgary Transit gets on the intercom "Please stand clear of the open doors!" In a tunnel?

Without knowing the exact situation, in general, I agree with the bus driver's improvisation here. I doubt the bus came barrell-assing through the light like a maniac, and am assuming that he calmly just pulled a nice little maneuver that perhaps caught you off guard. MAybe you turned directly into the right lane or something, or maybe there was only one land and the guy essentially screwed you out of your rightful place in line. Whatever the case, when it comes to a full bus in rush hour, moves like this keep things going, and it keeps asses in the bus seats, which keeps cars off the roads.

A move like that reminds me of what happenes in Italy when there's heavy volume going one direction, and light volume in the other direction... The side with the heavy volume just takes over a lane or two of the light volume side. No fancy overhead X symbols, no cops directing it, cars just take over, and the people on the light volume side understand that it's for the greater good, and move the f*** over. It truly is a beautiful thing to witness.

Please don't.

That is one of the few perks of riding transit. Nothing is better than having an assertive driver who (when safe) creates a dual turn, pulls forward past a line of traffic and slides in at the front or drives down the shoulder of deerfoot between Glenmore and Southland.

I wouldnt call this rage, but It would be super awesome if they provided Bus service on the weekends (friday/saturday) night a little bit later then midnight. If I remember correctly the transit system in Vancouver runs alot later then it does here. You've got to wonder if theres some sort of lobby group for the cabbies haha.

I know that not too many people are done drinking by midnight and I love paying 2.75 compared to 20 for a cab. I know it wouldnt be feasible on all routes but at least on some of the major routes like the 108/3/72/73/20 for example.

kinda like this would be awesome

NightBus

TransLink runs 12 NightBus routes that cover more ground than the three SkyTrain lines! Look for routes that start with "N" when looking up bus schedules, or use Trip Planner to find your best late-night route.

Good to Know:
  • 11 of the 12 NightBus routes originate in downtown Vancouver
  • All NightBuses leave downtown Vancouver at 2:09, 2:39 and 3:09 a.m., except the N24 Upper Lonsdale, which leaves between 2:02 and 3:05 a.m.
  • The last N10 Richmond Centre leaves downtown at 4:44 a.m.
View our NightBus Route Map for a network overview of our late-night service.

Request-a-Stop: If you feel safer getting off the bus at a point between two regular bus stops, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. you can "Request A Stop". The bus driver will let you off if he or she believes it's safe to do so. Note: You cannot "Request A Stop" along an express or limited-stop portion of a route.

Tough day on the train today. Got on at 7:20 and got to work at 8:50...fifty minutes late. But I will stand up and defend the train. Most of it wasn't the train's fault. There was 2 medical emergencies, a bus that broke down on the tracks and one train that actually broke down and not the mention the weather. Only one of those delays are really the C-Trains fault. That is quite the crap storm to the hit the trains. Even if they weather was fine, I think it's unreasonably to expect the system to coupe with all that.

Medical issues for sure aren't there fault. But I lump "bus breaks down in the cold" and "train breaks down in the cold" under the "Calgary Transit not effectively purchasing/maintaining equipment for cold weather" category. We have cold weather in Alberta. Plan for it.
