Is it just me or are the roads slower today than they were yesterday?

Deerfoot was way faster today. Took me 25 minutes to get from Beddington Tr. to Glenmore. Tuesday took me double if not a little more.

I'd say that today is shaping up to be worse than yesterday. There's a tonne of snow falling.

My 20km drive to work was 20 minutes at 6am today. Slow and steady.

I like working at 6:30/7am because driving to work at 8 or 9 in the morning would drive me nuts.

Agreed. Combined with my crappy wipers, my windshield was beginning to ice up as I hit downtown. Super-fun commute.

Anyone driving a bike in this weather deserves to meet a windshield. I had some idiot slipping and sliding infront of me this morning. Finally pass the idiot, and next traffic light he goes right up the middle to the front of the pack, and than anger repeats itself.

I've got a big F U for a lot of drivers. Truck man? Yeah, I encountered him a few times yesterday. Actually, it was beyotch in SUV that decided to go all the way to the turn off for EB Glen on SB Crow in the left lane, then try to get over. Screw you, bitch. That's not the kind of efficient driving I reward, that's asshollery, pure and simple.

Just like the dickface in the porche (yes, a porsche) that decided to scooch over into the exit lane for garrison woods, go allllllll the way up, then SLAM on the brakes, and try to get back in. Yes, I almost hit you, no, I'm not sorry for hawking that loogie on your window.

Then there's all these dbags in their little wiener cars with winter tires, zipping around the residential areas, totally screwing any RWD vehicle that's trying to take off and get on to the street. Just chill the F out. Why are you speeding around? You just have to stop right away. How about you let that truck in and relax?

I'm not sure why you think that having a car that is properly equipped for winter and handles well in this weather is a "wiener car".

I'm not condoning speeding around in residential roads, especially in this weather. I agree with much of what you say in your epic driving rants, but a small car with winter tires is great in this kind of stuff. If someone's sitting on the side and spinning their RWD summer tires trying to move a couple of feet, that's not anyone's problem but their own.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem, and I'm not trying to start an argument. You're spot on about Porsche guy and SUV lady.

I'm pissed off about the dick in the jetta that was blasting up 34th ave this morning, who totally screwed the delivery truck that was trying to turn. He would have had the perfect chance to get on to 34th, but this little punk come flying up the road and eliminated that chance.
I'm more or less convinced that he was circumventing the traffic on 33rd ave. I hate people that shortcut through MY neighbourhood.

I know that winter tires get you going faster, and probably help you brake better. Still don't need to be zipping around residential areas like that.

I was backing my little wiener car with winter tires out of my driveway on a residential street this morning, and this dbag in his SUV coming down the street decides that instead of waiting for me, he'll put two wheels on the curb and blast around me doing 40.

What do you want me to do about that? I already ranted about SUVs. My point is that all you holier than thou car drivers that love to yap about how trucks and SUVs are a-holes, aren't any better.
Driving up Crowchild yesterday was hilarious. I saw just as many transgressions from every kind of passenger vehicle.

Phew - drove the Mazda today. I see your point though. Even with winter tires, there's no need to be over doing it on side roads. And 34th really is bad for traffic, isn't it? It's like the Marda Loop Bypass. Some friends used to live right on it and it was amazing how many cars use it, and many of them are going way too fast.

Stupidity transcends vehicle type. There's plenty of fools in all makes and models.

It was a little punk in a goofy jetta with a big stupid spoiler. Hence the wiener car comment. Sorry, Ironhorse. I can see you're offended. Ditch the lame tinfoil spoiler and I'll stop calling your ride a wiener car.

The thing I find funny about some of the accidents that occur early on during these storms are the people who completely spin out and then are facing the wrong direction.

Like the off ramp of Deerfoot South going onto Memorial, and at the end of the off ramp I see a guy on the side of the road facing me. I laugh everytime I see these guys. Be patient instead of going too fast and you won't spin out and look like a tool. At least he was on the side of the road and not in the middle.

Some of the collisions yesterday I was were crazy, some guy's entire front (up to the engine) was broken off and on the ground and the guy who he hit was facing the wrong direction with no bumper. Again, be patient people. Don't be speeding and then expect to stop immediately when traffic is built up, the ground is 90% ice, this isn't the summer, you won't stop.

A big stupid spoiler? You should said something. Definitely a wiener. Maybe the increased downforce is helping him stick to the roads?
