PANTHERS PRESS
November 21, 2005
It took about 6 months, and 3 GM's later, but the Florida Panthers finally landed the player they have been after.
For the past 6 months, GM Penney has been on the phone and inquiring about Hejduk. With what seemed to be an iron will, GM Doug in Carolina held firm and wouldn't give up the CPHL star. GM Penney was beginning to believe that he would never land hejduk and that he would remain a Hurricane for years to come.
Then it happened.
In an instant, Hejduk was sent, not to Florida, but to Atlanta! The chances of getting Hejduk remained slim as GM Cheese and GM Penney hardly ever make trades. Penney was back to square one but this time he didn't even bother to inquire about Hejduk, figurong that there was no way Cheese would ever trade the 65 goal man.
A shocker.
Cheese sent the CPHL star to the Predators, and GM Penney quickly contacted GM Bob to see what Hejduk's status was. To Penney's dismay, he was told Hejduk was not available. Bob wanted to see how Hejduk performed for him before making any move.
The calls began.
GM Penney was constantly on the Phone to Bob trying to land Hejduk but he wouldn't budge. Could Penney's luck really be this bad? Landing Hejduk was the toughest challenge Penney had ever faced.
Enter Nordiques.
After seeing the updated trade block by the Panthers, GM Prototype of the Nordiques showed an interest in Marcus Naslund. The wheels in Penney's head started turning...all 3 of them. Remembering that Bob of the predators had a soft spot for Naslund, Penney made a deal with the Nordiques to land him.
New negotiations.
And so it began...again. Penney offered up Naslund for Hejduk but was once again he was denied. The challenge continued. Late night discussions and a few coffee's later and Penney had Bob thinking about the possibility of landing Naslund...but it wasn't going to be easy. Bob made it quite clear that he wanted an upgrade on defence if he was even going to consider trading Hejduk. In return for the upgrade on defence, Penney demanded an upgrade of an AHL goalie.
Deal struck.
To Nashville:
- Berard, Bryan (D)
- Naslund, Markus (LW)
- Beckford-Tseu, Chris (G)
To Florida:
- Skoula, Martin (D)
- Ward, Cam (G)
- Hejduk, Milan (RW)
The deal is, for the very first time, being announced now. A hacker tried to stop the deal but he only managed to slow down the process. it is believed that Doug and Cheese worked together to try and put a stop to this deal by hacking
www.calgarypuck.com. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Milan Hejduk is a Florida Panther. GM Penney hopes that he can once again get to the 65 goal plateau that he reached last season, although he has a long way to go!
