This is my first winter driving, but I've got a 4WD SUV with winter tires so I think I'll be fine, but there is always a bunch of idiots who think they're fine in their sedan in all seasons and hit someone..

I fly back to the Middle East Tuesday. I can only hope that is soon enough!
Of course if it's not, I'll have to leave for the airport 4 hours before my flight and then sit around in the lounge for another 4 hours waiting for my delayed flight to come up. And upon arriving in Montreal, I'll need to reschedule my Frankfurt connection, probably through a different European city, and lose at least a day's pay for arriving late.
I REALLY hope this thing starts Tuesday afternoon!

4wd SUV drivers are typically the worst, Just because you can get to 110 km/h easily dosent mean you can stop easily.
I put the winters on my truck and the spare car yesterday.
Best thing to do in the snow:
Go to an empty parking lot, pull the parking brake and see how your car reacts. Slam on the gas, and the brakes... see how it reacts.. Practice and you should be able to control most slides that may or may not happen. I do it every year.

Totally agree! It may seem stupid and juvenile, but this is something I used to do with mom and dad's vehicles all the time as a teenager and I swear it's made me a better driver as an adult.
Get out and find out what your car's limits are! Only then will you know when you're approaching them.

Stay safe everyone. Remember not to rush anywhere, a few minutes is not worth unneccessary risk for an accident. I think the cause for most of the accidents at the beginning of winter is people not leaving themselves enough time to get somewhere (eg. summer travelling time) and then getting in trouble trying to rush to thier destination. At any rate, drive safely.

It is that which spurred the development of this distraction we Canadians refer to as "hockey".
Winter on the surface is inconvenient but when embraced, it's one of the best things our world has to offer.
Skiing, skating, snowboarding, tobagganing and all else "winter" is all the evidence I need.
Some say summer is too short and winter is too long. I say spring and autumn are too long. Those transition seasons with no sport of their own are just annoying.

Pfft... winter in Sydney. So cold that you might as well be in Antarctica. Probably have to wear a jacket or some crap like that.

Ahh yeah, every day when I put my jacket on I like to remind myself of QLD weather so I stick my head into a preheated oven...it's heaven.

I get around fine on the back roads in a little 100HP Chevrolet Aveo.
Having winter tires is great, but the driver makes a bigger difference then anything else.

Hey, it's November 15. We had a pretty good autumn. I remember the first snowstorm last year happening the day after Thanksgiving.
