Bart: [whining] Mom, my slingshot doesn't fit in these pockets. And these shorts leave nothing to the imagination. These uniforms suck!
Marge: Bart! Where do you pick up words like that?
Homer: [on phone] Yeah, Moe, that team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
Just as funny as season 4? That's a ludicrous statement, no offence.
Tell us about the good old days Gramps.
It's funny to hear words like palatable used to describe the Simpsons. It's a carton. It's a good cartoon, but still a cartoon. I prefer the more recent episodes so I don't have to hear "Don't have a cow man" every third line.

Simpsons seasons 3-6 were some of the best TV ever made, cartoon or live action.
I haven't even watched 80% of the Simpsons from the last decade because it's not even as good as what's on TV nowadays. It has nothing to be do with being a crotchety old man(which I'm not) it's how far the show has fallen in quality.

You guys seriously need to give the Simpsons another chance this season. I've watched almost every season except for the last two or three because I agree they have been horrible, but it is very good right now and they've made a huge comeback.

(Is born in 1991, for reference)
I personally miss those old episodes. It was more wit than rapid fire jokes/whatever you want to call the Al Jean comedy.
Not to say that it can't be done properly (as I mentioned before, the show is coming back to life the last couple years), but it certainly has been a lot more hit and miss for a while, and the better part of the last decade has been miss.

Looking through the episode lists, I think season seven contains most of my favorite episodes: Bart's Soul, Lisa the Vegetarian (the only Lisa episode that doesn't suck), Bart on the Road, Mother Simpson, You Only Move Twice, 22 and Short Films about Springfield. Sure, it has some complete misses (Lisa's Sax) but even the annual clip show was better than most thanks to a heavy dose of Troy McClure.
Give it a chance. Marge Gets a Job is on right now. Another classic episode.
TV Voice: That's damn fine coffee you got here in Twin Peaks! And damn
good cherry pie!
[On the screen, a man dances with a horse under a tree, from
which a stop light hangs. They dance to the saxophone music being
played.]
Homer: Brilliant! [laughs] I have absolutely no idea what's going on.
I've been a Simpsons fan since the beginning, and I think its still good. I think age of the viewer has a lot to do with it, and just running out of situations.
That said, Homer at the Bat is probably my favorite, and of course, its Season 3...
Edit: In this season's episode MoneyBART, Mike Scioscia makes an appearance, and Marge says "I thought you got radiation poisoning when you were working at the Nuclear power plant."
