Or speed dial on Opera. No need to type anything in the address bar, just hit Ctrl + # (# is customizable to any number). I've set CP to Ctrl+2 so everytime I press Ctrl 2, it goes straight to CP.

Yes, you can remap literally everything in Opera and have a shortcut for every function you can think of. I have tons of random stuff on my keyboard like pressing 1 and 2 on my numpad actually does back and forward for when I'm too lazy to do shift+arrow.

As a web developer, all I ask is that if you aren't using the lastest IE (8), or Firefox - then expect webpages to function in odd ways. If you're using a browser that isn't main stream or out dated, don't bitch about rendering or javascript errors. (I do small projects mostly and no one ever wants to pay for browser testing...)

For myself, I use Chrome for casual browsing, but Firefox for work (Firebug is too essential). I find I don't bookmark much - I tend to search for everything.

And if you're still using IE 6 or IE 7, just want to let you know that I hate you.

Opera has a button you can create that makes webpages think it's other browsers like IE, Firefox, etc. but I don't know if that does anything for compatibility since Opera uses it's own engine.

It's true that in past years, many websites didn't render properly for Opera because they weren't designed for it and never detected it but new versions constantly come out and I haven't had any problems with that for over a year.

Opera also has a ton of apps and functionality built into it (like e-mail, torrenting, etc.) but it's not bloatware because it isn't activated or loaded unless you want to. I never have but some people might want stuff all in the same place. Opera also has Opera Unite which is like a cloud computing feature where you can access all your bookmarks, documents, files, media and information on any computer and have it all be the same or even start a webserver.

Has anyone encountered this:

I've left Firefox because every time I launch it activates my external hard drive and slows Firefox down significantly.

I do love me some Chrome though.

Is there a setting or plugin in firefox that is causing it to use your external harddrive to cache data or as a paging drive? Or maybe a setting or plugin that is causing it to scan all available drives for files/media?

That is a brilliant feature.

I figured out why i don't like Opera tho, I can't put my browser buttons (back forward reload etc) on the same level as my web url. making more dead space.

HUH? What are you talking about? You can move everything around in Opera, moreso than most other browsers.

Firefox even copied Opera's shrinking the menu bar into one icon, except with Opera, I can put anything else on it like tabs, etc. also.

Literally anything that is on a bar can be moved to somewhere else or removed or stacked or whatever you want. You are doing something wrong. Right click on a empty space in a bar and go customize appearance and literally everything can be moved and put where you want.

When you are in appearances, click on any item and it should have a "ghost" version of it moving around to where you want. I don't know why it's not working for you. Some items, you need to hold shift to get them to move.

Other useful Opera tips, always use mouse gestures. Holding the right click and making an "L" shape will close a tab, going "down up" while holding right click will clone a tab, going "down" with right click will open a new tab. Press CTRL-SPACE to goto your home page. Hold right click, left click will go back. Hold left click, right click will go forward. Speed dial can have many more than 9 dial windows, I have 25.

Also, I love the trash can, I can't live without it. It is a history of all the tabs you have closed recently.

The yellow line indicates the current toolbar you are working on. Hold click on the individual items with left click and you should be able to drag them. What do you want to move? It looks like your back/forward/home/refresh are already on the same bar as your URL. What do you want to accomplish? Also, the "placement" setting can move the tab bars to the bottom, etc.

I'm also using a skin that makes everything a bit smaller as well.

I have never changed the order of bars, as I only ever use one bar on top to save space. If you want your quick links to be below the URL bar, I'd suggest enabling the "view" bar and removing all it's contents and dragging all your quick links onto it (click on the favicon on the webpage you want and move it over).
