1) The sounds are terrible, and I mean terrible from what I've come to expect from a Call of Duty game. All of the guns sound the same and there are huge issues with some of the LMG's when firing in bursts. I've come to expect to hear an actual AK-47 firing not a damn cash register going off repeatedly. The ambient sounds and voice overs leave something to be desired as well. Oh and also the grenades, oh my good lord, they sound like a fire cracker going off. Come on this is a war game I want my house shaking at even the hint of an explosion.
2) The character models are also brutal as soon as you step online. At least the animations are alright this time but c'mon these models look like they were taken straight outta MAG and they have 120 players running around instead of 12. They can do much and I mean MUCH better especially considering how good MW2 looked and even the original MW and WaW is better than what is being offered in this game.
3) The gun models throughout the entire game just look.... well..... weird. Some of the guns look right(like the MP5K or Commando) but the M16 just looks so generic and something that I would find coming out of an EA produced game.
4) The credit system is not for me. Just give me my guns and perks when I hit the required level and I'll use whichever one that I choose. Don't make me spend some fake currency on something every single time I prestige. There was nothing wrong with leveling up to get weapons and this really just feels like a cheap gimmick.
5) Controls are kind of clunky and it may just be me that needs to get used to them although I doubt it as I've been playing the game for a while now and things just aren't as smooth as I would like.
On to the good.
1) The campaign is absolutely fantastic aside from a few minor details that I won't go into. It's honestly the best thought out and put together campaign in any CoD game that I've played so cudos to Treyarch for delivering on it.
2) The gameplay is still there in multiplayer. It's solid, as it has been since MW. Nothing more and nothing less.
3) Having the setting as the Cold War really was refreshing as I was getting really tired of WW2 which Treyarch seems to really enjoy producing.
All in all it's a solid game and if Treyarch would bother to work on some of the finer points I would be enjoying it a lot more than I currently am. It just feels like the same old thing rather than a game that actually brings something unique. I'd also still rate MW2 as a much better experience that Black Ops just due to the presentation alone.
If I were to give this game a rating I'd say it would be 7/10. Solid but not what you'd expect from this series.
Also in the multiplayer my current KD is hovering around 3.5 and things have seemed really easy so far.
So as someone who has never played any of the Call of Duty games where is a good place to start? The first one? Does it still stand up today? Or is there a better one to start with? I just noticed that the older ones are a 1/3 of the cost of this one and CODMW2 (for obvious reasons).
Stay far, far away from CoD 3. I would probably suggest starting with the first Modern Warfare as it was the first game in the series to introduce the leveling multiplayer. Though WaW wasn't that bad as long as you aren't burned out on the WW2 and if you want just go straight to MW2 as you won't be missing much in content seeing as most of the good multiplayer maps from the first MW were put into MW2.

I'm I just getting old, or is the online gameplay in the CoD series getting to be almost ridiculously fast? It seems like each game in the series gets a little bit faster paced online.
CoD classic from the PS3 store is much more my speed
Lol, the scene at the end of the game after the credits is epic, worth playing the whole single player mission for.
At this rate, I'll never make it there. I'm playing on Vetran mode with ;cg_draw2D "0" which means no hud, no text, no ammo count, no crosshairs, no arrows, no indicators, etc.
I've spent the last 2 hours trying to turn a corner in the missile base tunnels. Stupid checkpoint system. I thought they might have gotten rid of the infinite spawning enemies until you cross a certain line thing but it's still there. I must have killed over 100 soldiers on that one corner over 15 minutes.
Kind of silly that in 1963 there are digital readouts and laser reflex sites and electronically guided shoulder mounted missiles and picitinny rails and guns that don't even exist until the 70s and 80s in the 60s. All this stuff is 40 years too soon for the historical period it claims to be.
This game is actually PC friendly with the console unlocked and FOV options and dedicated servers and mod support. Right now it's buggy as hell though with multiplayer lagging on all servers. I'd wait if you wanted to buy this.

Didn't the stealth bomber come out in the early to mid 80's? Well when I say come out I mean to the general public knowledge

Thank you for everything CP. Good memories and thankful for everything that has been done to help me out. I will no longer take part on these boards. Take care, Go Flames Go.
Uggh this is so frustrating, the 'freezes' I get once in a while in the server screen, custom class screen etc.. is so annoying.
Plus I never am able to load when everyone else does into the game, by the time I join its already been going for 1 min, and the first like 1 min I play its choppy as .
I know theres bugs so I'm hoping its not specific to me, I mean I'm running a 9800 quad core with gtx 480, 8 gigs ram.
The thing is watching death cams, its like they are seeing me faster than I see them if that makes sense, so I'm having a hard time doing much of anything in MP.
Single player has been great so far, btw it runs perfectly for me.
So far I'm not overly impressed with this one. I'm not a massive COD fan but bought the last one and had some fun. This one doesn't seem as fun online imo.
I'm not really sure why they've included sniper rifles in this one as they are completely useless in every level I've played. To me it's just turned into a game of running around like a maniac with a machine gun. The maps all seem very small, I enjoyed having a mix. On some maps I could be a sniper, on others take a machine gun...
I don't care at all about the solo game, bores me...
I'll give it until I get up to hardcore and see how it is. Otherwise I may just trade this bad boy in and go back to EA MMA (lots of fun and better than UFC imo) and hockey of course.
