For my first 2.5 years I really enjoyed what I did. Since Jan. I've hated my life as it was merely to make some more money so I can go do what I want!

Today is my last day and I leave for East Africa Nov. 27 to meet up with the Mrs. then we're both off to Paris for a year! Couldn't be happier!

I believe that if you do what you love, not only will you be happier with your life but you'll treat people around you better (ie. sig. other, family, friends) but the money will even itself out. Taking a job JUST to make money when every morning you want to hang yourself is a recipe for disaster. IMHO! I made that mistake. Don't regret it as it was only 10 months but still if I had another opportunity that would have accomodated me I'd have taken that instead.

My current job is underpaid, with the understanding that I am going to learn a lot from doing the things I do and other than that I just need to make sure everything doesn't fall apart while I am at work. So I motivate myself by setting goals of things to learn about.

I work for myself, so motivation comes from the realization that all my actions, good or bad, will come back to me. If I'm good at my job that day, it benefits me. If I'm feeling lazy and don't work as hard, that too will make a difference on my bottom line.

It's great that I know that the ball is always in my court and how hard/smart I work correlates to how much money I make, but then again, I often find myself working 7 days a week because I have a hard time saying no projects I probably don't have time to take on. I'm nowhere near as stressed out as I was when I was working for some schmuck company though, so I'm pretty satisfied. It would be very tough to go back.

HR groups take the q12 very seriously, or at least that's what I'm told.

Client satisfaction. It all begins and ends there. If my clients are happy, everything else career wise will pretty much take care of itself, and has so far.

I am surprised no one answer that the motivation to work is to pay those fricking bills!! If I have no bills to pay, I would sit at home and do nothing!!

I was always motivated, but I always hated working for somebody. I don't know why, but I was like that since I was 13 years old. I was always working hard, a very good listener, never missed a day of work, easy to get along with, etc. I just never felt satisfied ever. It's like I always felt stuck. Money isn't always a big thing, but it always motivated me. I never liked that my earning potential was never unlimited (Unless you have a big commission type job like insurance, etc), My goal was to get into my own business before the age of 30 so that's what I'm doing now and I've never been happier. I just feel very free now.

I'm the type of person that would overall rather make less money having a business than going to a 9-5 job, but luckily the right type of business can make a person a lot more.

I'm all commission, so money is automatically high on the list. Also positive feedback from my clients, helping people, my ego, and always progressing without selling my values out to make a buck.
Out performing the competition is a big measuring stick for me too.

I'd have a difficult time being motivated if I worked a job where I felt I couldn't keep moving up and getting to a next level.

Challenging assignments and tasks. Once a job becomes repetitive and requires no logical thinking I grow bored and less motivated

Variety in my work, pressure, recognition (some positive, some negative), internal drive to do better than my co-workers for advancement purposes.
