Celtic Tales: Balor of the Evil Eye
Not so much that it didn't age well, but it is freaking impossible to get running how I remember it anymore. I've tried quite a bit and just end up frustrated. I would love to play this game again to see if it has withstood the test of time.

This may not be the most appropriate thread but I wasn't sure that it warranted a new one. Not to mention I don't believe I can start a new thread yet anyway being that I am new. Anyways, anyone excited about NBA Jam coming out November 17th for PS3 and Xbox 360? It already came out for the Wii but it's missing the online play and a few other things by the sounds of it. I used to live on this game when I was in junior high! It'll be interesting to see if the same concept with updated technology and some new modes will translate well. I know I'll be buying it for sure, anyone else checking it out?

Microsoft bought the rights and ran it into the ground. Same with EA and the wing commander/command&conquer series.
There is a new one coming out after the original creators negotiated the rights back from microsoft. Its going to be a reboot... So no clan mechs yet =(

The command and conquor series has had a good run. You make me sad about Wing commander, which was such an awesome series, even the half completed Prophesy.
Every once in a while I still pull out the Kilrathi Saga and go blasting around the universe trying to decide if I should split off from my kill to save Maniacs a$$ again.

If I were to ask for one series to be re-booted, this one would be it.

I don't know if it needs to be rebooted, they had a pretty serious cliff hanger at the end of Prophesy, where Blair had vanished after destroying the stellar gate.
If you ever want a mission with impossible odds, that last one was it.
I think that the biggest two things that killed the franchise was moving to FMV, the Kilrathi were no longer as nasty and ominous when they looked like big teddy bears. And that terrible movie.
But an amazing series, even to this day the flight engine is so far ahead in terms of maneuvers.
Nothing beat a skeleton slide when taking on a superior enemy, or a cut throat when taking on a Salthi.
And it was one of the only games that I can remember where your wing man dying for the most part wasn't a pre scripted event, and you always felt terrible when you attended the funerals.
An awesome aweome series.

I miss some of those hardcore Jane's Simulator games from years ago. The ones I played were really difficult but rewarding when you beat your mission. My buddy still has Longbow, fired it up and man it looks some ugly.

Janes F-22 Raptor looks no better. When that game came out I figured graphics would never get any better.

Just played through all six space quests. Some of the game play definitely did not age well. The worst was when you needed some item from early in the game and you basically had to restart from scratch just to get past a certain point.

My first love for rpgs was easily the FF stuff. Starting with FF2 (american) and going from there. FF3(6), FF7 and even FFX I really enjoyed (minus awkward jpop swimming scenes and forced laughing). Never played 9, and didn't like 8. X-2 was an abomination, and FFTactics was one of their best.
Nowadays I love sandbox games like Oblivion. Dragon's age and mass effect are also pretty neat...but I think these fill a different niche than FF. These are about exploration, doing things your own way, while FF games are all about progressing a predetermined storyline with no room for messing around with other things. I don't think that it is a negative, just a different niche in the rpg market. I don't actually favor this style anymore, but I spent hours and hours and hours as a youth playing these games and remember them fondly. I still want to pick up and play FFTactics, FF7/3/2/even X again on emulators every now and then!

If you liked the early FF's FF9 is probably the closest thing you can get to them. FF12 is also excellent. 13 and 14 are total garbage.

FF7's always been a favourite, although I think one reason it's perceived to have not aged well is because Advent Children updated the look too much.
Also Cloud looks too much like a girl in AC.
