Microsoft used $500 million to market this thing, so they probably have to sell at least that much just to recoup the marketing costs.

The new update to the Xbox interface for Kinect is somehow more bland looking than the old version...thanks Microsoft!

Edit: Never mind. I don't know wtf those guys were talking about. It doesn't require a 250GB HD, it requires 170MB of memory.

Picked this up today. First impression: WOW!

The technology is amazing. I had low expectations. There is lots of room for improvement on the software side, and I'm sure there will be improvement, but I'm really astounded how well this works on launch.

People will be talking about this in the weeks to come as the next big thing.

so would it be beneficial to get the 250gb xbox right now or just the 4? For 100 bucks its worth the extra space or can you put your own HD in?

My old xbox got the rrod and is over 4 years old so time to get a new one

Just get your old xbox fixed for 50 bucks or so. Check out Killasoft on kijiji or craigslist.

I don't understand how the technology is so groundbreaking. It is a webcam with voice recognition. ooooh

You don't understand, no surprise.

Why even enter the thread or post if you insist on being ignorant? Habit?

Ignorant? True, I mock the technology but I just don't find it "revolutionary", I understand the tech inside it (I know it is more than a webcam hehe).

From what I have seen, it suffers from the same problems the Wii did/does (which was released 4 years ago), laggy controls and not true 1:1 ratio for controlling. That and the games are blatant rip-offs of Wii games. Not to mention the Wii is terrible (Yes I own one). And it is overpriced.

As long as I get proper games my complaining will subside as I see this failing within 2 years. The upside in my view is Microsoft has said this will lengthen the consoles life so the 360 will last longer.

I dont care much for this kind of tech. I play video games cuz I'm lazy, not to exercise. Yet I still can agree that this tech is pretty amazing.

Is this really any different than what Sony tried doing with the Eye Toy for the PS2? I think technology has caught up so that MS can execute it better, but I would hardly say Kinect is revolutionary. We've seen the idea before.

I am not saying this is better then sliced bread but I do believe it is a large step over the Wii in terms of cost effectiveness.

Bottom line is its 149 and you don't need to buy 10 other controllers like Wii and PS Move but will give you the same overall experience.

I bought it because I like the ability to not pick up the controller to view my media library, the games are more of a passing thought LOL.

As I mentioned above, I think this technology has a lot of potential for a business environment. Imagine doing a presentation using this technology. You can drag and drop graphs and tables with simple flicks of your wrist. There's no more need for laser pointers and controllers for powerpoint.

But for serious gaming, I think the novelty of it will wear out pretty quick. I like having phsyical feedback when I play games. I think Kinect will be going to "party game" route in order to be successful. It worked out well for Nintendo and the Wii, Kinect just takes it to another level. Imagine all the potential drunk hilarity that can happen.

The only somewhat concerning thing is, you now agree to let Microsoft have a camera sitting in your living room. It's all fine and good if you're offline, but if you're connected to the internet, I see potential privacy issues.

you mean like when you have a webcam on a pc or even a laptop? or a camera on your phone? or you mean like anything connected to the internet?

i agree with the rest of your post, but for the "privacy thing", we may as well unplug everything. after all, isn't xbox live an invitation to review your hard drive anyways?

for me, the kinect is completely about the motion. I wonder if there will ever be a AAA title on the kinect, and maybe it doesn't matter for the people that are buying the kinect, but it can't be any worse than the shovelware that has been dumped onto the wii. i really want to see what the reviews are like on the harry potter game due out this month, and i think that the michael jackson game will be a huge hit if it is done properly.

it isn't just dance central. i think the idea is that you get your picture taken during specific moments in some if not all of the games; kinect adventures for sure has "camera moments".

the link gave me a good chuckle though. they always tell you to dance naked...but i guess buddy took it literally!

It will be interesting to see if any developer uses a combination of both the kinect and the traditional controller.
