Default Wild say so long to Dion

The Minnesota Wild have parted ways with Dion Phaneuf.

The dman has been shipped to the Kings in exchange for Luke Schenn and a rather complex little conditional pick:
" Terms: Wild will choose to either accept ATL 1st round pick in 2011 and any 2011 2nd round pick from the Kings or choose to allow the Kings to provide Wild with one of DAL or TOR 1st round picks in 2011 at the Kings discretion"

GM Farhall
"We became concerned that Dion's game was regressing and we became less convinced that he was going to turn things around. Luke is a guy we've had here before and we think he's ready now - he'll be given a chance to step in immediately on our final pairing. And we will also add a pick that could end up being very high in this summer's draft".

Boy has Dion fallen far...

I like this for the Kings...the team in toronto is still getting better and he will lead them.

I think this deal will really come down to whatever that crazy condition spits out. I know a lot of people are really high on Schenn but personally I think the Leafs ruined his development by throwing him to the wolves 2 years ago.

To add to the caveat on the deal, the GMs have agreed that the matter of which pick will be transferred to the Wild will be determined after the completion of this season's playoffs.

The kings would like to welcome Phaneuf to an already very strong defense and will likely be paired with Weber, something of a bash brothers pairing.

Both players involved are NHL Leafs, so I hope both the players fail and the trade hinges on the picks value.

He's been playing better this season and I still see him as a good shutdown top 4 guy.

The pick is indeed the wild card here. If somehow it ends up top 3 - it's a home run for me. If it's top 5 it's a solid ground-rule double.

I agree Schenn has been better this year. I still intend to get this team out of the basement!
