Can't say I've driven to the dome when there isn't a game. We usually leave with lots of time to beat traffic, but then again I did that when we lived in Calgary, too.

If you work 5 days a week, and depending on your work location vs house location, sure.

I'm not raising any of these points to say living in Cochrane is a bad idea. As stated before, it's my favorite small town within striking distance of Calgary, and actually has some things that make it worth visiting which is why I'll go there a few times a year, but never Airdrie or Okotoks. I'm just saying for the general case of a downtown Calgary worker, there are some considerations that need to be made, and 10 minutes two ways on every commute can eventually start to wear on you.

If you have kids, I would recommend it. The 4 hockey arenas, lacrosse field, gymnastics, Indoor Soocer, Outdoor Soccer, Outdoor rink and pond, Movie house, Bowling, Skatepark. All decently good activities. The food is also good with Boston Pizza, Oliver Twist, DQ, Mc'Ds, A&W, The Keg ( Or maybe somthing else, cannot remember) Panago ect.

edit: dont forget 2 Golf Courses and dog parks.

The Texas Gate for Steak Sango's

Been here for 4 years now and love it. I work DT Calgary and drive in every day.
Only had one issue with the big hill but like someone said you can always take the 1 then the 22. The roads are always in great shape but for me the fog is what really sucks simetimes but don't drive like an asshat and all is well.

I live in Sunset and like it a lot up here. But ya the wind can get old really quick.

Cars shouldn't even be allowed to go that fast. The government should step in a limit speed.

Until they open a Sbarro and a Papa John's, they are simply stuck in culinary mediocrity.

I've always been a fan of Cochrane, especially the Rec Center.

However, I understand that there have been some issues with the ground shifting in areas and foundations cracking and requiring major repair. The story goes that a developer in Cochrane (don't know which one) hired an engineering company to do a land survey and the results came back that the area was unsuitable to build on because of the unstable, shifting ground. So the developer hired another engineering company and got the same result. Yet again they hired another engineering company and lo and behold got the same result. Finally, on the 4th attempt they hired a company that gave them the results they were looking for and (part of) Cochrane was born.

If you look at Cochrane a lot of it is built in a river valley on a hill so it's not suprising that there may be some foundation issues. Again, I'm not sure if this applies to one or more areas of Cochrane or which ones it applies to. However, you may want to do some significant research on it.
